We’ve got juicy new information about the rumored Samsung Galaxy Lite that you’re definitely going to want to hear. Let’s start off with pictures of the front and back of the phone, shown in both White/Lime and Black/Red and adorning an adorable Android Robot on both sides:
Three are two VERY interesting debates that come along with this little update:
- The original source (dialaphone) claim that the Galaxy Lite is delayed until 2010 in order to give the original Samsung Galaxy some breathing room. However, the folks at TMOtoday say they have “a very reliable source” who ensured them Galaxy Lite “will definitely come to T-Mobile USA this year”.
- Unofficial specs included mention of Touchwiz. This is of course Samsung’s custom designed UI which has never been mentioned in the same breath as Android. But it would make sense… HTC Sense, MOTOBLUR and now Samsung’s Touchwiz for Android. The pictures show stock Android so don’t go placing any bets just yet
Here is the full spec list that accompanied the rumor:
- 3-inch WQVGA TFT Touchscreen
- 3.2 MP camera
- Android OS 1.5
- Chrome Lite browser
- Google Apps and Android Market
- Bluetooth 2.0
- USB 2.0
- Wi-Fi
- 3G – HSDPA
- Edge – GPRS
- Touchwiz
- Accelerometer
- 3.5mm audio jack
- 200MB internal memory
- MicroSD card (up to 32G)
- GPS
- MP3 player, MPEG4
Specs seems feasible but I beg to ask those 2 questions again:
- 2009 or 2010?
- Touchwiz or not?
Why don’t they use bigger 3.5 screens? With 3 inch screen the keyboard is useless.
Ohh that looks interesting.
Although Dialaphone is a UK site could the release dates differ between UK and Us?
Does it feature a compass?
I believe this has everything the galaxy has so yes it will have compass the only diffrence in spec is lower res camera (down from 5 to 3.2mp) and internal storage is down but you retain memory card slot so no big loss
@Franta
So true, i barely can use the software keyboard on my g1
why the heck is samsung coming out with a lite phone in america when it has not yet come out with the original phone yet… this is messed up. I’ve been waiting for that phone for so long… its got too old now and i should probably move on…
The Houdini looks real nice tho. Hopefully this time USA gets one… >:o
Touchwiz actually makes sense as to why the Android robot is used instead of the Google Logo. From the branding guidelines on Android, I think you are free to do what you want with the robot, sooooo no Google Logo = no Google Branding meaning Samsung could use their own interface.
If T-Mobile gets this and not the Galaxy i7500, i’m going to be incredibly pissed.
Seriously.
@Will
I completely agree, I’ve been waiting for the Galaxy for months now and if they release this instead, it’s the Cliq or bust.
Agreed, everyone. This is a nice phone in it’s own right, but I’ve been checking Phandroid and Engadget every day for the last month waiting on a Galaxy release date. >:(
I’m with Will and PaUbu on this one. I’m sick of being a second class citizen and getting crap smartphones while the rest of the world gets decent smartphones.
The Galaxy Lite is really weak. I don’t think anything coming out with Android should have specs less than that of the G1. Im getting tired of looking at upgrades with equal or lesser specs than the phone I currently have. Its almost a year later. Move On Manufacturers! Quit holding onto the past.
This is just dumb…they should have both of them. If you want to shell out more then get the Galaxy, if you don’t have enuff $$ then get the Galaxy Lite.
The Hero & Cliq seem like a better phone according to specs.
@ Ryan
same here man… no luck :(
i believe the android kernel has limited support as far as hardware, hence why you see most android phones with the same spec. Also keep in mind the CPU used by most of these devices works very well when you consider the price.(hence why it’s still being used). So cheap hardware and limited (for now) hardware support equals EVERYONE using the same hardware specs. It will get better my friends, just hang tight.
on another note, i think the cliq will be the best android phone value wise. but that’s my opinion!! :)
I wish I knew who to blame about this kind of thing. There has to be some reason why the states either dont get certain devices at all or downgraded versions. Is it the FCC? Are the manufacturers purposely holding out on us and giving us “lite” versions to make us feel better? Is it the carriers? I dont know about the rest of you but I would rather not get a device at all then get a downgraded version of one. Throw a new form factor on the same hardware and give it a different name but a “lite” version is just like a slap in the face to me.
those look like dummy phones. the picture looks plastic-like
there’s a guy over on the T-mo forums claiming to have a reliable source that says the Galaxy is indeed coming, but not till early 2010:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/tmbl/board/message?board.id=08&message.id=1400&jump=true#M1400
…but who knows what to trust?
Agrees with Will! What do we want? The Galaxy i7500! when do we want it? NOW!!
Folks, I just bought a Galaxy today from the O2 shop at Shepherds Bush in London… 450 quid (SIM-free cost, I’m going home to Australia tonight). The thing is fantastic. Who knows when it will get beyond the UK though??
“Why don’t they use bigger 3.5 screens?”
Because they want both the male and female market. Many men won’t buy a cellphone if it doesn’t fit comfortably in the pocket. Unless you are a really big guy, even a phone with a 3″ screen is on the edge of what is tolerable. I want to see an Android phone with a slightly smaller form factor.
WHY DO ALL THESE PHONES HAVE THE SAME SPECS? WHAT ATTRACTED ME TO THE GALAXY WAS AMOLED & 8GIGS OF MEMORY. EXPANDABLE MEMORY DOES NOTHING FOR APPLICATION SPACE & SPEED UNLESS YOU ROOT. I WILL STICK WITH MY G1 UNTIL AN ANDROID PHONES DARES TO STEP OUT OF THE BOX ALL THE OTHERS HAVE BEEN WRAPPED INTO. WE WANT A TEGRA PROCESSOR, 3.5 INCHES OF SCREEN REAL ESTATE & AT LEAST 8 GIGS OF APPLICATION SPACE. COME ON PHONE MANUFATURES GET WITH THE PROGRAM!!
I dig the Android logos on the front and back.
I want the extra large size with extra Cheese. and I don’t want it unless it has white headphones and and “l” in it’s name.
Actually Samsung has many good phones, this one not the first based on Android.
