By Everyone wants in on the Android Phone action and the latest player is now ZTE, at least according to rumors from Total Telecom. The Chinese manufacturer is thought to be pitching AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon in the United States as well as Vodafone and France Telecom’s Orange abroad, among other possible suitors. Next year we’ll likely see these rumors come to fruition.
Although the Android aspect of ZTE’s smartphone aspirations are a secret (not anymore), the company hasn’t been hiding their overall goal to push mobile devices as a new growth area for the company. At an event in China, the company’s Managing Director of Handset Business had this to say:
“We hope to sell our smartphone to these operators next year,” Dale Ying, ZTE’s managing director of handset business marketing, told Dow Jones Newswires in an interview on the sidelines of the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress in Hong Kong.
“We see big potential in the smartphone market. We are targeting to ship more smartphones in the coming few years which will help to improve our gross margin.”
The Android rumors aren’t surprising – pretty much every company looking to bolster their smartphone share is looking into Android if not already developing and manufacturing for the platform. The more the merrier as far as I’m concerned!
Yeah! More crap from China. Ill stick to the known, tried and true brands. Its enough to support their economy throuh; Moto, Sony, Apple etc. They are all about reverse engineering and stealing ideas to make a far inferior product. Not to mention the 1984 internet scheme. More fine products, compliments of NAFTA and the WTO.
@warrentotheg: If I remember correctly, NAFTA is an agreement between the US, Canada and Mexico. I don’t understand where China comes into all of this.

Every few days there’s speculation or confirmation of another company making / pushing Andriod hardware.
This is so reminiscent of the Mac vs Windows battle for the personal computer market back in the 80’s… the way the chips are stacked today, there will be so many Andriod devices to choose from in another 12 to 18 months, what is Apple’s answer, or are they just prepared to lose again.
@ DonnyIrish So is Apple, but from what I understand allot of the parts of the iPhone are made in China. Could be the same from Motorola but I do no know.

There is already few big companies like Moto, Samsung, Sony and HTC is working on Android phone and ZTE is also entering in Android phone race. All are these indications that Android has a bright future.
MOTO Droid is a hemorrhoid! Of COURSE MOTO builds all of their products in China!! A great way to layoff more American employees to artificially prop up MOTO stock price for the next quarters’ insider stock sales!
MOTOROLA: a more brain dead board of directors was never seen on wall street….
I would like to see more ZTE handsets in the Canadian and American market. More competitors in the marketplace will only benefit consumers.
