By Looks like the Motorola Droid Devour(Calgary, A555) that will be released on Verizon Wireless soon will be the first Android phone rocking the Qualcomm MSM7627 processor.
This is a new processor for Qualcomm and can also be found in the Palm Pixi and RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530. The processor is similar to the ARM 11 found in many current Android devices but also boasts:
- Two ARM cores integrated into a single chip – a dedicated CPU core and a dedicated modem processor – for an unparalleled level of integration:
- 1. 600MHz applications processor with floating point unit and L2 cache
- 2. 400MHz modem processor
- Supports both CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO Rev. A and UMTS HSDPA 7.2Mbps/HSUPA 5.76Mbps, and GSM
- In addition to the two ARM cores, features 320MHz application DSP for multimedia supporting full 30 fps WVGA encode/decode, 200MHz hardware-accelerated 3D graphics core supporting OPEN GL 2.0, high-resolution camera, integrated GPS
- 12mm x 12mm footprint
- Optimized power consumption
The Motorola Devour is rumored to launch with Android 2.1, something that only the Nexus One officially has. Hopefully a launch of this nifty new Android powered device from Motorola will be released soon, anyone excited yet?

The dual core marketing line is the same bullshit Motorola tried to sell with the Droid too. Yeah the MSM7627 has two ARM cores, but so does the G1. To top it off, in the case of Droid, it’s two separate chips (meaning extra power consumption and slow interprocess communication) and they were trying to sell that as an advantage!
I’m not saying the MSM7627 isn’t a faster processor. It’s much faster than the ARM11 used in the G1. There are other details about the chip that’s generally not mentioned in the spec’s that faster in the MSM7627 compared to the one in the G1.

Yes, intriguing keyboard design, yet not original. The keyboard design is taken straight from the Samsung Moment which was just released in November… The Moment’s keyboard still looks more functional than this one, but maybe this is not the final version for this phone…
I’m not seeing the benefit of this over a Droid, unless this is intended to be a $100 phone.
The network support interests me, though. I’d love to be able to buy a handset that I can run on any network.

Well, its the same Keyboard design as the Sholes render. And didn’t that render show up before the Samsung Moment? So that would again make Samsung the copycat.

If you really want to get technical, the Motorola Sholes/Droid was released on November 6 and the Samsung Moment was released on November 1. As far as renders go, Moment and Droid renders were hitting the web about the same time, so you can’t really argue that one or the other stole the idea. So, no, the Moment is certainly not a copy cat and it was even first on the market… All I am saying is that the Devoir keyboard is not an original design by any means and the Moment’s keyboard is a bit more functional. In fact, it’s way more functional than the Droid’s as well!
