For Aussies awaiting Androids, they’ll get a free infusion on May 4th when Telstra launches the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. To get it free you’ll have to hand-over a handsome sum of money, signing up for the $110 Ultimate plan on a 2-year contract, a total of $2,640. Of course you can always purchase it outright for $1099. Don’t forget these are Australian dollars, but converted to USD it isn’t that far off – the $1,099 is about $1,020 USD.
But if you get it free on contract, you don’t need to do any currency conversions to calculate zero! Here is the full press release:
Telstra will launch the Sony Ericsson Xperia™ X10 smartphone – its second Android-powered mobile – on 4 May.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is a sophisticated smartphone with distinctive styling, featuring a large four-inch touch screen display and a fast 1GHz Snapdragon processor.
Operating on Google’s Android™ operating system, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 combines popular Google applications like Gmail and Google search with made-for-Android apps from Telstra including Mobile FOXTEL, Whereis® Navigator and Yellow Pages® Mobile.

Those prices are ridiculous.
1000+ in ANYbody’s money for a phone/gadget/toy is ridiculous. This even makes Apple’s prices look sensible. Wow, what a shame. I thought SE had a winner with the X10, but it looks like they’re just as greedy as Apple.. even more! Time to update my list (grabs a pen – crosses X10 off), well down to just Galaxy S or EVO 4G now.
in india you can get this for 30 000 Indian rupees = 674.46 U.S. dollars
The x10 on rogers here in canada is going to be 549.99 off contract so Australia just got scammed
Why bother when you can import Nexus for $610US? Thats what i did when it first came out. Now i have one of the few in the country.
WTF! You aussies are really screwed. And to think that I meowed over our german prices. Bah, in comparision they are sweet. 5c per minute and 200MB for 8$ plus 450$ for an Droid (simlock free). And that for 2000mBits per sec. HSPA
You dont need to import the Nexus. Telstra is releasing the HTC Desire on 27th April as well. And it’ll be cheaper than the Nexus on plan :)
This is just Telstra being Telstra, the X10 is already available in ustralia off contract for under $800 – still expensive but no where near the prices Telstra charges

Lets see, bad build quality, comes with an older version of android, no multitouch, laggy, no hd recording, need i go on?
I wouldnt pay $1000 for the much superior samsung galaxy s.
No doubt they will rip us off for data too. The data plan they announced for the HTC desire is something like 150mb per month on the $60 a month plan.. ridiculous. Telstra sucks at android.

My main b!tch is that Telstra release this phone a week after they release the HTC Desire. I am leaning more towards the HTC Desire as I believe that HTC will be more forth coming with updates as compared to SE. Also everytime the SE phone has come near anyone it has been sluggish to use.
I might wait until they are both in store and go and use both at the same time. I really am sick of using a sluggish phone and would like a nice new snappy fast one
Its pretty expensive in Taiwa, too. And honestly, its not worth it at all. I would expect something priced like that to be real snappy but it lags and the touch screen was annoying. Some spots youd really have to get just the right little spot to make it work. Another BIG FAIL by Sony.

OMG Get over it…. If you dont like the price then DONT BUY IT!!!! Wait 3 months and it will half that price. Its on ebay from singapore AU$649.00 for those happy to wait or buy it from elsewhere overseas. Oh and Mr winter… What you earn a year, is what I pay in tax alone… youre obviously not getting paid enough!
