BTW, for all you Alltel customers with alltel phones, Verizon has a promo going that as of April 9th you are eligible to upgrade no matter when your contract ends at the 2 year price, and if you upgrade to a smartphone you get a instant mail in rebate. This is for the Midwest Area. Pretty good deal, instant rebates are hard to come by with VZW.

So, if you sign up for a two-year contract, you’ll hand over $300 cash and wait 6 weeks to get a $100 debit card mailed to you. If you cannot do the two-year contract thing, you’d have to buy the phone at full retail which will be $600 plus tax.
Did you notice there is no mention of the FM radio?
Did you notice there is no dedicated Phone and End buttons on the front, like there is on the Eris?
Did you notice there is a lot of space (at least from the pictures here) above and below the screen where some will wish they just would have extended the screen a bit more?
And finally, the frustration here is that if one signs for the two years and gets this phone, you just know a more desirable phone will be released perhaps making some sorry they signed.

Does the android phones have the ability to install 3rd party apps without doing some sort of hacking? Please let me know. I am tired of my iphone and I want a droid phone. Too bad I have ATT cause I have heard of what ATT did with the backflips

@ #8… did you not see the photos of this handset that have been leaked for weeks? The screen size and lack of Phone and End buttons come as no surprise, so the people who are excited about this phone (including myself) are only MORE excited at this point.

Uh, throw it in the garbage? Buy the Incredible? You can change phones whenever you want, you just need to pay full price if you’re not due for an upgrade.
I sent an email to verizon asking them to “tell me about the incredible” and the representative who emailed me back said specifically that it will include the 8 gigs of internal memory. This press release is probably accurate but doesn’t include ALL of the key details. I would guess that it will have the amoled screen. They sure seem to have fit everything else in.

Jeez get a life! I have a DROID and it’s great anyway, why do you feel that somehow since “newer” and “better” phones come out that you are somehow now “missing out” or obligated to get the newest/latest/greatest? If a phone works for what you need than it’s good enough!
My god, if you are this way about a phone I’d hate to see what else you obsess over! You dont need to always have the newest toys

@ Adam……If you have multiple lines on your phone and you are the primary line you are eligible to upgrade once a year instead of every two years. The secondary phones on the plan are only available for the every two years. I learned that just a couple of days ago when talking to a Verizon Customer Service Rep. The twist is that if you are still within the first your your new contract will be one year plus the remaining time of your current one year contract. I’m not sure if you could do the same with a two year contract or not. Me personally, I have the Eris which I purchased in December and am eligble to upgrade now but I am waiting for the next greatest Droid.
Wow does that phone look good in hi rez! Sharp design and the want factor is definitely there. I might not jump ship to get the Evo on Sprint after all…but Evo is still calling my name…now if the Droid Incredible only does HD I’d be sold. Though I doubt it would be as cool as the Evo with HDMI out, kickstand, ginormous screen, etc.
By the way I’m loving how HTC is now branding their phones with the prominent HTC logo on the back…it looks really good.

Adam. there really is o way to get it swaped for the incredible unless you buy it at full retail or if you are for some reason eligible for an upgrade or if you want to add a new line to your account. if you have multiple lines on your account and one of those lines is able to do an upgrade you can do that and then do an esn swap to your line.
Niko, it isn’t just about having to have the latest and greatest. Not at all. It’s that they add nicer features that you would have purchased if available at the time you maybe settled on the phone you had.
Let’s take the Eris as one example. The Eris has a slower processor and a smaller screen. But for those who didn’t want the weight and thickness of the Droid, lots of people settled for the Eris. I assure you a lot of those same people would have preferred the 3.7″ screen of the Incredible over the 3.2″ screen of the Eris, etc.

First off, FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Now my question is do you still get the $100 rebate if you sign up for a 1 year contract. I refuse to lock into 2 year deals anymore, so the extra $75 they charge for 1 year over 2 is worth it to me. But, if I lose out on the rebate, then it’s the same as an ETF and not worth paying upfront…unless they are still getting away with that $375 ETF scam.
You know what’s interesting? This first official picture shows that the red camera doe NOT protrude beyond the case. So happy they didn’t miss something as obvious as that. 720p and that FM Tuner will make this the perfect phone for at least 4 months. lol

You may be right, but there is no way to be certain about that seeing as how the pics are not in profile view. It could still have the protruding camera lens…
Tmobile is $30 a month cheaper than Verizon for the same plan (500min/text/unlim web vs. 450 min/text/unlim web), and Sprint you can get unlimited everything for $70 a month. I think I’ll hold out for the EVO or I’d rather just buy a Nexusone unlocked.

These days the 2yr contract with any provider is for suckers. Honestly, what’s an extra couple of hundred upfront when you are going to be paying > $1500 over the course of 2yrs and will have to pay hundreds in ETF if you want to break. Mobile tech is evolving at such a fast pace that to lock yourself in a 2yr contract to save $300 is just silly. I’d rather pay the extra $0.41/day over the course of those two years and know I can leave at anytime.
