Adobe Flash Player and AIR Beta Sign-ups Open
Shortly after the news that we’d be getting Adobe’s long-sought Flash Player 10.1 some point in the second half of this year, Adobe announced that they’re accepting public beta sign-ups for users who want to get a taste of the premium multimedia driver early on. Sign-up is quick and easy – all you have to do is go to Adobe’s site and sign-up for an account. After that, you just opt-in to each beta separately and you’re golden (the betas have not launched yet, though, but you’ll be notified by email when they do). I’m much more interested in the AIR beta than I am Flash. For those that don’t know what AIR is, Adobe has created a multi-platform framework that allows quick and easy development of many different types of applications across a good chunk of platforms. Their “develop one and deploy to all” strategy makes it perhaps the most attractive platform for developers (and has quickly become the platform of choice for things such as desktop Twitter apps, eBay apps, and so forth).
I’m not sure if we’ll be seeing a relatively smooth transition to the Android platform (nor am I sure this will even be destined for phones initially: the current offering of AIR apps would seem suitable exclusively for tablets) but it’s worth getting excited about anyway.
