Last month, we reported about a company by the name of Global IP Solutions who were developing an Android-compatible platform – named VideoEngine – that would bring rapid development for voice and video chat. At the time, it sounded like GIPS really had something going for them. Google just confirmed that they had A LOT going for them: to the tune of $68-million.
While the firm doesn’t have all of their eggs in the Android basket, the fact that the acquisition plans were announced shortly after they announced their video chat platform for the mobile operating system leads me to believe Google has brought them on specifically to continue that work for Android (previously, development was also being worked on for the iPhone OS and Windows Mobile).
Click here to read more about GIPS and the acquisition, and feel free to chat amongst yourselves about the possibility of seeing native support for video chat in future versions of Android.

Looks cool.
Tie this in with Google Tvs and you have Google Video Chat through your TV.
Now I love Android and all and can’t wait to see all the integration that comes out of it but I’m bothered by purchasing up all these companies. I know they did this to kill two birds with one stone which is to stop the tech from being used by their competitors. I hate MS and I’m beginning to hate Apple for the ways they close out everything but their own technology. But it looks like Google is pulling the rug from under companies in their own way. I guess its a necessary evil though.
google, the ‘next evil empire’.
they aint so evil after all.
just come out with a UMA android and watch the tellcos and cellcos squirm because they will really have to compete.
