By Popular web-hosting company (and German internet service provider) 1&1’s announcing the 1&1 SmartPad, an Android-equipped tablet with a 7-inch WVGA display, WiFi (up to N), and 3G connectivity through an optional USB dongle. Other confirmed specs include an ARM11 processor clocked at 500MHz, 256MB of RAM and 1GB of ROM. It will ship with Android 1.6 but an upgrade to 2.2 is expected to head to the device in September.
The device will come with some 1&1 custom apps, including a music player, digital photo frame, and Maxdome VoD service, and some popular applications from the market preinstalled (such as Twidroid, Facebook, Wikipdeia, and more), but the Market itself will be replaced with a proprietary app store that’s housing a meager 100 apps at this time.
Pricing and availability currently has this thing going for free for any new 1&1 customer with their Doppel-Flat 16.000 DSL service, and they can expect it to get it this July. Current and non-1&1 customers will have to wait and see what they can do to get their hands on it.
