Many of the killer features that Google Music will offer (stream to device playback and push downloads come to mind) go hand-in-hand with the Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) features previewed at Google I/O. It only makes sense that the two would see a concurrent launch, and that’s just what Android product manager Gaurav Jain is saying. Dan Morrill squashed the recent Gingerbread rumors floating around, and part of that includes an October release. I suppose it’s still possible, but we agree that that timeframe might be a little soon. Expect to see both Google Music and Android 3.0 launched closer to the holiday season or early 2011.

I did not realize that the Music within the Android Market feature was for Gingerbread. Why the hell did Google show it for prior to releasing Froyo?
That kind of sucks. They acquired Simplify Media, who just shut down their servers yesterday. I was kind of hoping for a quick turn-around. You could share your entire music library with your friends, and in turn, listen to their entire library. Then of course play all that back on your phone. I’m going to have to live without this amazing service for how many months?!
Why not? They clearly stated it won’t be in 2.2, but coming in the future. I personally would prefer to have some insight into plans, than suffer from the apple-like secrecy around a release.
Guys, you just told us that the 3.0 rumor was just a rumor. Don’t you read your own stories?
It is still on the site’s main page!
@Pedro Rodriguez Your right but this new story came straight from the horses mouth Google product manager Gaurav Jain aka passion-ate on the Nexus One support forums so its not a rumor.
@Pedro Rodriguez Google debunked the required specs and some of the specifics given about 3.0, but 3.0 was announced prior to that and when they were aiming for a release.
I think google is going to make the service free upto 25GB or .something
Didn’t Google say they were going to release an OS update per year? I don’t expect gingerbread till 2011s Google I/O
@Justin after gingerbread
Sheesh hope 2.2 fixes fragmentation issues…so the other updates will be dandy. Anyhey Google music….alittle late being most people have ipods and mp3s…but still cool cause I will be able to put music on my phone.
