When ZTE first unveiled their intentions to get a whole group of Android smartphones out onto the market, it seemed they would mostly be low-end devices running older versions of Android. They are still mostly leaning towards the lower-end of the SPECtrum (see what I did there), but at least with time the version of Android on board has been brought a little more up to speed. Now featuring Android 2.1, the ZTE Racer has shown up in 3UK’s online store.
Available for £110 without a contract as a pay as you go phone, the Racer comes with the following outlined specs:
- 2.8 ” QVGA (240 x 320) touchscreen
- 256 MB internal memory expandable via microSD card slot (2GB card included in sales package)
- 3.2 Megapixel camera
- WiFi
- 7.2 Mb/s HSDPA
- Bluetooth
- GPS
- FM radio
- Dimensions: 102 x 55 x 14.5 mm
- Weight: 100 g
If you’re in the UK and in the market for a no-contract Android phone on the cheap, this one might be worth some consideration.

I didn’t know such a thing as an off-contract Android phone existed
not bad. nice to see more android phones at the low end of the market.
all in all though, i’d suggest to anybody to go on ebay and get an unlocked htc magic for about the same price.
just wanna add, love the Andy (everyone calls him that, right? :P) design on the back.
@Alex
The T-Mobile Pulse in the UK is off contract, as is the HTC Tattoo.
(Not to mention the Nexus One if you buy from the Goog :P )
That’s awfully cheap!
I won’t be getting it, but this is the kind of phone (along with the superphones) that will ensure the future success and spread of Android :_)
this is resistive screen people and hey they are actually bringing in a capacitive screen touch screen phone at 150 pounds soon
There is a huge market fro this thing in India and China 150 bucks is an awesome price point.
This seems like it’ll be my girlfriend’s next phone.
She’s by no means a technophobe, but is on a budget, prefers not to be tied to a contract and needs to replace her shitty Nokia dumbphone.
The screen actually seems pretty responsive in the two YouTube videos I watched, despite it being resistive.
They’ve found their market.
Wow at 150 pounds you will need a wheel barrel just to move it around.
actully this phone is not £110 its actully over £200 for proof lokk on the 3 website and go on checkout refresh about a coupke of time and then theres your proof would rather prefer t mobile pulse i getting it!!!
GOT ONE! -actually from Argos for £99, but had to be purchased with a £10 top-up.
I was expecting it to be a fail and return it, but it rocks!
Nice one Google, nice one 3.
Its fast, and the touch screen works as I expect (never had a touch screen before).
I also bought one last week , it works great and as I have tethered it to my netbook HP mini311c I don’t have to buy a mobile dongle.Very happy.
