If it seems like we just told you that TouchType just released their SwiftKey beta into the Android Market, that’s because we did. It happened only a week ago, but today the makers of the alternative typing solution are boasting in a press release just how successful their little keyboard is. Already at over 100,000 downloads, SwiftKey looks to give competitors like Swype a run for their money. TouchType is of course aided by their software being readily available in the Android Market and the large media attention they received upon announcing the public beta. LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — An innovative text prediction app that takes the strain out of touchscreen typing has exceeded 100,000 downloads in its first week on Google’s Android™ Market, its developers said Wednesday.
SwiftKey™, created by British start-up company TouchType, was the most downloaded Android™ app last week according to the popular blog ‘Android and Me’. It was also chosen as a top Android pick by several other major tech sites, including Gizmodo, Tech Radar and Brothersoft Mobile.
“The last week has been phenomenal,” said Jon Reynolds, TouchType’s co-founder and CEO. “We started TouchType because we knew there must be a better way to type on a touchscreen phone. As well as exceeding all download expectations, we have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback about SwiftKey™. It has already established itself as a market-leading text entry solution.”
Tech blog Engadget heralded SwiftKey™’s launch as the introduction of “world class predictive text” for Android phones, saying the app has “an uncanny ability to guess what your next word will be… In our early tests, we’re pretty darn impressed.”
TechRadar named SwiftKey™ as the best keyboard app on Android™. Placing SwiftKey™ at the top of its Android™ apps of the week, Gizmodo said: “The star feature of SwiftKey™ is its predictive text – it literally learns the way you type.”
What makes SwiftKey™ revolutionary is TouchType’s patent-pending language technology, which understands how words are combined within sentences and continually learns as a user writes.

TouchType says the user feedback it has received so far has been incredibly positive. “I think this is the best way to text ever invented,” one user said. “SwiftKey Beta is probably the best thing that happened to Android in recent times,” commented another.
The beta is currently available to all smartphones running the Google Android™ platform. TouchType says it is working hard to make a series of enhancements in response to beta feedback before a full paid launch later in the year. The first update to the beta was released Wednesday.

Love it! My one concern about my Vibrant was the lack of physical keyboard. Swype made me realize I dont need one. Then Swiftkey made me realize I dont need Swype!
best keyboard out there, its even better than swype but my only complaint on it is the “settings” key next to the comma, i keep on pressing it by mistake, i really wish there’s a way to remove it.

Just downloaded it a few minutes ago and already love it! I had Swype awhile ago but never really digged it. Just personal preference. I already have a physical keyboard on my Moto Cliq but this makes me want to actually use the virtual keyboard more often. The input method is great and the predictive software is on point. Finally a virtual keyboard I like. :)

Mmm nice app, however I dont like that it only lets you download one language pack…
I’m always switching between spanish and english depending on whom I’m texting… So yeah that one missing feature is enough for me to stick to swype till this one gets cracked online :)

It’s aided by being available, period.
It’s a good thing other companies don’t run things like Swype does, or you would have to buy a whole new car in order to get Goodyear tires.
what kind of company makes a product that literally NOBODY can buy?
I hope they don’t charge us through the teeth when this is finally released. Nothing sucks more than to have to pay $10 for a keyboard :(

I hate Swype and all those other custom keyboards.
That said, SwiftKey is fantastic. I might have to suck it up and buy it when the full version comes out. I have yet to purchase any app. It’s that good. It’s so freaking fast once it learns your speech patterns and idiosyncrasies.
Oh man, this is incredible, it just knows exactly what you want to say. only down side is the microphone icon is gone, but you can type so fast it doesn’t matter.
For me (as a German) it didn’t seem to learn anything and i had to type manually more often than getting the right prediction. Also it happened too many times that i got the wrong word before i even knew it and had to redo it.
I didn’t try typing English, but i did that with swype and it was perfect – hopefully they’ll release a German dictionary for swype.
If SwiftKey doesn’t let you download the language module, try uninstalling and reinstalling. Should work then.

Easily one of the best keyboards right now. Some complete sentences picked up with only a few presses :-)
I like the idea of Swype but this is far easier to pick up and you average person will likely see a faster wpm count.
Individual keys seem more narrow compared to Better Keyboard. Maybe it’s because Better keyboard has no negative space on the sides, not sure. Have to try this for a week or so and see which of the two I like better.
@ SwiftKey – Where oh where is your Mic button? Gotta have that mic button for voice-to-text. At the very least have one of the other buttons – like the Settings (wrench) button do a switch to voice input upon long press.
I like your KB, but No Mic button = No Dice. Gotta have it.

It’s ok.
The text correction on it is horrible. Even on the EVO I hit the wrong letter sometimes and HTC’s stock keyboard has amazing text correction to the point that I can type almost as fast as I can say it.
This keyboard reminds me of windows mobile’s auto complete…
