It’s September 2nd here in the states, but it’s been September 2nd for a few more hours over in Berlin, Germany for the folks attending IFA. With that, Samsung’s ready to formally introduce the Samsung Galaxy Tab – “A new smart media device allowing you to enjoy more possibilities on the go”. Everything we’ve heard about the device is now confirmed to be true – including the exclusion of the Super AMOLED display.
Instead, we’re treated to a 7-inch WSVGA (1024×600) TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen, Android 2.2 with Flash Player 10.1 support, 3G HSPA connectivity, 802.11N WiFi, Blutooth 3.0, a 4,000mAh battery for 7 hours of movie playback, a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor with a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, and more. Samsung’s also boasting how light this device is as it only weighs in at 380 grams. They’re really pushing this as a premier multimedia device for those looking for an Android tablet capable of getting the job done. Out of the box, it supports HD video codecs such as DivX, XviD, MPEG4, H.263, H.264 and more.
Let’s not forget the dual cameras for general use and video calling. Finally, Samsung’s introducing their own Readers Hub (an eReading application), Music Hub (for music downloads) and Media Hub (for films and videos). If you can’t live with iOS, then the Galaxy Tab is the tablet you’ve been waiting for.

@ KK – Samsung holds the patent on Super AMOLED technology, and are the only producers. However, it is projected that there will be a shortage of these screens well into 2012. If they put it in the Tab, they’ll be shorting other phones, like the wildly popular Galaxy S series, which has sold millions of handsets worldwide.
Basically, Samsung isn’t betting the farm on the Tablet market. They’ll leave the greatest and least available of their toys for the tried and true phone market.
@magicdroid It has AGPS I think, you can definitely use layar and google maps navigation on it as they’ve demonstrated it in videos

Wish it had GPS, and an integrated usb port. The lack of a usb port might be a real deal killer for me. Also wish they had a non-cellular version since my epic creates a nice life giving wifi cloud. Why would I pay for another cell service fee, and if I’m not getting the service, why pay for the radio?
I’m holding out for a tablet with a 10-inch-or-so screen at the moment. 7 just doesn’t seem that much more than my phone, which is already surprisingly great for reading and browsing. Once the 10-inchers (ooer Matron!) are out, I’ll be keeping tabs (see what I did there?) on what gets rooted, although it seems that all roads lead to Root at the moment.
I didn’t see any word on price or specs regarding a microSD slot there. Does anyone have any clarification?
I thought Android 3.0 was the first OS that will support Market. Hmmm. This has the full Android market and apps capabilities. Looks great. If it’s priced at less than $350, I might be interested.
And which provider is going to carry this in the US? T-Mobile?
yes microSD slot is included and it has AGPS, check the samsung website for specs, my question is the connectivity… it looks just like apple’s, am i wrong? and if it is the same, will it then dock in to itunes? i know mobile phones (except apple) are using micro usb, won’t this fit in to the category? it has phone and data
