Over the weekend a recall order was placed on WalMart’s remaining Motorola Droid 2 stock. All remaining units are to be shipped back to the distributor Brightstar’s warehouse by Tuesday, October 26th. This is interesting because the long-standing rumor has been that once the Motorola Droid 2 Global is released the original Droid 2 would cease to be available. If that pans out WalMart’s recall request may signal the arrival of the Droid 2 Global by the end of the month.
Remember, the Droid 2 Global has yet to be officially announced, and an unveiling at CTIA revealed that it in fact won’t be the same phone as the Droid Pro. If Verizon handles the launch of the Global in the same manner as the Droid 2 it should be a quiet one, and considering that for all intents and purposes it is the same phone we don’t expect too much fanfare to surround the release of the global roaming version. If the WalMart recall is indeed related to the release of the new version of the Droid 2 we see no reason why it might not slip onto shelves very soon.
