Sharp Launches Glasses-Free 3D Phones for Japan, 3D Games from Capcom, Konami, and Namco Coming Soon
We are in the middle of a 3D boom, even if the godfather of the movement, James Cameron, recently came out bashing most media that has jumped on the bandwagon after the wild success of Avatar. Still, there is something pretty cool about 3D, especially the kind free of those pesky glasses. Glasses-less 3D on the small screen may have come into vogue with the Nintendo 3DS, but it is also headed to smartphones. And two from Sharp have launched in Japan, and they both look like decent phones at that.
The Sharp 003SH and 005SH — launching in December and February respectively on Softbank — both feature Android 2.2 with a custom TapFlow UI, 1GHz Snapdragon processors, and 3.8-inches of glasses-free 3D. The main difference is the 003SH gets a 9.6MP camera in its touchscreen only package while the 005SH gets a 8MP camera and a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
But what good is a 3D phone without 3D content? A few classic game makers are jumping into the fire with upcoming titles from Capcom, Namco, and Konami. The Capcom titles include MegaMan, Resident Evil, and Ghosts ‘n Goblins, all of which will come packaged into the Sharp handset.
Konami has Mobile Powerful Pro Baseball 3D slated for an Android release, and Namco Bandai will be putting out 3D version of Taiko Drum Master.
Old-school gaming with a 3D twist on some pretty slick Android hardware? Yes please.
