Someone over in LG’s public relations department must be having a bad day. After a posting to their Facebook page causing a nasty rumor about Gingerbread minimum processor requirements was quickly dispelled by the Android Team, LG has issued both a clarification and an additional promise that the LG Optimus One (the phone at the center of the rumor) will indeed receive Gingerbread. Here is what they had to say:
“LG released information prematurely regarding the minimum processor upgrade requirements for the LG Optimus. Google recently announced the Gingerbread platform and has not yet published the Gingerbread Compatibility Definition Document (CDD) or the public branch open source code. Once the CDD and the source code is public, LG will evaluate the upgradability of the Optimus Series. We apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding. We will alert you as soon as more information on this topic is available.”
Then:
“LG will upgrade all Optimus One smartphones currently using the Froyo OS to the next version of the Android OS, Gingerbread. Details of the upgrade schedule will be announced locally in due course. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and misunderstanding that was caused regarding this issue.”
So there you have it, if word from Dan Morrill of Google wasn’t enough this surely is. Pretty awesome that LG will remain committed to keeping their low-cost Android set up to date with the latest version of the OS.

Yeah there’s no excuses for anyone, really, if the Optimus can handle gingerbread (not that anyone is surprised)

Hmmmmm ….. I’ve heard similar things from LG before being an Ally user…. 2.2 they said. I’m still waiting. Honeycomb will be out when they finally get around to my little phone it seems like.
@bela, the optimus s is a version of the optimus one so that means its getting gingerbread
It would be great to see the same level of commitment to the ZTE Blade/Orange San Francisco, though somehow I doubt it.. At least we have XDA and Modaco :D

Yes! I wonder how I’m going to upgrade my froyo one to a gingerbread one though. :)) I don’t care. I’ll pay a thousand bucks if I have to.
I just talked to a Rep and they said it will be avalible next week on wendsday for every android that came out between last september thru now
