By A small tid bit of information was dug up from an article having seemingly nothing to do Android 3.0 itself. MSI and a few other companies were discussing what their companies had in store for 2011 when this little nugget of information was read:
On the other hand, MSI is set to display its 10-inch Wintel-based tablet PC as well as engineering samples of its ARM-based Google Android model. MSI is also prepared to sell an Nvidia Tegra 2-based model in April or May after Google releases Android 3.0 in March.
If it holds true, we could see Honeycomb released into AOSP by March. Chances are, we wont have to wait for Google to release Gingerbread before we get our hands on the Motorola tablet, all is well. It’s gearing up to be a great year for the Android tablet!

With the UI tweaks, I’m not sure that I’d want Honeycomb on my SGS. I obviously haven’t had much look at it, but I guess we’ll see in March.

Honeycomb could be 2.3T, who knows until it is here.

I thought Ice Cream was going to be released in June. Although I love how Android is killing everything else out there with upgrades, I thought the idea was to switch to semi-annual upgrades to allow the Samsungs and Motorola’s of the world the breathing space to get their Touchwiz’s and Motoblur’s up to speed.
Don’t forget HTC and the Sense.

Thats how false rumors get started. Someone just throws out a statement like that, someone else takes it and runs with it, and suddenly its an expectation. Then, when June rolls around, everyone is going, “uhhh, where is my ice cream?”, and the original rumor starter is nowhere to be found. (Dont take this personally, I wasnt trying to attack you…)
Ya, Google, buddy, about that… What you say after this we slow it down to once or MAYBE twice a year. I’m sick of constantly being like “Oh, when is my update going to come?” Plus if companies had longer between updates they could support more less popular phones longer, because they wouldn’t need to be like “Screw supporting the Aria (or cliq, or backflip, etc), we need to focus on the upcoming release for the Evo (or D2/DX/G2/MyTouch4g”
hopefully this is not true and it will be out sooner, im coming to the U.S in January and staying only for one month, i want to get my hands on a honeycomb tablet before i return home

As long as Gingerbread fixes my wifi issues and the broken links to the clock and music app in voice search, I’ll be happy….
… until all of the features of Honeycomb are announced. :P

Honey would correspond with spring so I am guessing late March early April.
I love android but they have to stop releasing new OSs everytime. Not good for the developers.
Gingerbread just launched a few weeks ago. I doubt they will throw honeycomb at us in a mere three months.
Hmm why is google coming out with a bunch of new OS’ all of a sudden for mobile phones? They should just work on constantly improving Gingerbread (2.3) and just come out with a new OS once every year or so or just keep updating it. With this, they are trying to make us always buy the latest smartphone.
I was going to say stop complaining..these updates are what make android the best.. but reading @fulaman ‘s comment.. I’m on your guys side. Updating the OS in segments will be better. After honeycomb.. they should only work on that OS and improve it with mini updates until its perfect and everyone has it. And than after about a year.. icecream. :)

Actually, releasing Honeycomb quickly makes sense because from what I’ve read, it’s tablet compatible whereas Gingerbread necessarily isn’t fully compatible. It’s no secret that tablets are getting ready to explode full force, it’s already starting to happen. Honeycomb is needed soon, not in June. After that, I lean towards believing two updates a year, but not necessarily the same thing. One for phones, and one for tablet and larger sized devices. Makes a lot more sense to have apps targeted specifically for large screens so more can be done with them, so the OS needs to accommodate that. Can Android handle the large screen differences and will it make coding apps to run on both a 4″ and a 10″ screens harder to accomplish? Don’t know, but it’s interesting to think about.
we just got the SDK for Gingerbread I hope they wait atleast 3 months before the next update. True we need it for the Tablets, but lets go one step at a time
