It’s been a while since we heard any news of the Dell Look Glass, but while the hubbub has been squarely directed at the upcoming Dell Streak 7 on T-Mobile, the company’s other 7-inch Android tablet has quietly passed the GCF. The Looking Glass supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and quadband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 850/1700/1900/2100 MHz according to the filing.
Other information that has been rumored for the Looking Glass includes an NVIDIA T20 processor, Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.0. It was originally slated to launch with Android 2.1, but at this point we hope they have decided to bump up the version number of the operating system at launch. awesome name
Wasn’t “Looking Glass” already registered as a trade mark for an OS by Sun Microsystems a few years back??
Hasn’t the world of Android and the Open Handset Allianced angered the mighty Oracle enough?!!
Why oh why are respectable companies even considering releasing tablets that aren’t Android 3.0? I know Google is leaving it to the hardware manufacturers but on this occasion I’d prefer Google to say ‘no you can’t put anything other than Android 3.0 on a tablet, period.’
if they are using it as a hardware name then it is completely unrelated and therefore acceptable…. just look at the name “Evo”
sprint – Phone “Evo”
Saitek – Gaming Line “Evo”
Mitsubishi – Car line “Evo”
@dakang although Google’s developers are the biggest code producers in Android, technically it’s an open platform run by the Open Handset Alliance. No one company governs what the limits or restrictions are and who can do what with it.
Technically Dell could put Android 1.1 on it if they wanted to, they’d just be simply shooting themselves in the foot by doing so.
Honestly, is Dell even relevant in the tablet market these days? I feel like they lack the innovation or the sheer power of a Notion Ink Adam or a Xoom. Just seems like another mediocre toss in by a heavy hitter company to take a bite of the tablet pie. They didnt wow me with the Inspiron Mini, they didnt wow me with the Streak. I just dont see anybody really being amazed by this.
Dell needs to stick with low-end grandma computers and leave the high-tech stuff to people who actually CARE about creating inovation. :P
Am I the first to notice all the bands on this thing? It has 3g bands for AT&T, Bell, Telus, Rogers, T-Mobile, Wind, Mobilicity and Vidéotron. Plus much of the rest of the world, save for the countries where 900MHz coverage is needed.
