Bummer! When we first heard about the LG Pecan – a low-end Android – we heard it may be launching with an NFC chip inside for mobile payments and other fun applications. Upon reading that Orange would be carrying it today, I figured it made sense considering they’re leading the UK charge in rolling out large-scale NFC payment systems.
Unfortunately, the Pecan doesn’t have the NFC chip that would be required to take advantage of those services. It still looks to be an OK phone, though, with its 3.2 inch display and Android 2.2, as well as a 3.2 megapixel camera. Expect this to land on the carrier as a cheap PAYG offering, with free tariffs for those of you who don’t mind signing contracts. No word yet on when exactly it’ll be releasing. [Orange via EuroDroid]
