Droid-Life has just received a smorgasbord of information regarding two of Verizon’s devices to come out soon. New Sunday circulars confirm the Motorola XOOM will be $799.99, while we’ve finally gotten a solid price on the HTC Thunderbolt – $249.99. The ad also confirms folks will need to purchase at least 1 month of data before they can unlock WiFi functionality.
It’s also been confirmed that Best Buy will be taking presales for the Motorola XOOM starting February 17th, though it wasn’t said how much you’d need to put down. [Droid Life 1, 2, 3]
Motorola WTF @ $800 and locked wifi?
We want a cheaper wifi only version
Guess I’ll be crossing my fingers for a cheaper G-Slate or a Tab 2.
Guess I’ll be crossing my fingers for a cheaper G-Slate or a Tab 2.
what WE need is a 3G/GSM+WiFi unlocked
then $800 will be the right price
800$ is cheap.
Stop complaining and get a job
Well lol MEH will be one of the few that will be getting the Xoom for sure
I for one can’t wait to get my XOOM!!!!! I don’t care about the cost. It’s a justified, one time, investment as far as I’m concerned.
I plan to wait for a little bit, hopefully the price will drop like the tab did.
@Meh $800 will be cheap if it’s a laptop with a medium end graphics card and a icore CPU. $800 for a tablet is not cheap.
@Meh. I have a very good job, and $800 is high compared to a laptop why would they need to charge that? The Thunderbolt is even going for $750 off contract. That’s f@#ed up.
Couldn’t wait for the Xoom to come out, but if Motorola wants to release with a data plan required (no matter for how long) they can keep this Tab. If no cheaper wi-fi only version, then I’ll just buy a Ipad 2. I don’t care how great the Xoom is supposed to be, without a wi-fi only version, Motorola is going to lose a lot of business! Who really needs a data plan with a tablet when you have a data plan with your cell-phone and can tether??? This is just lame – and the Xoom will be doomed to lack-luster sales! Idiots!

My biggest beef is with the cost of the Tbolt, even with a bigger sd card its very steep. The Xoom is around what a 32 ipad would be
If you guys think the Galaxy Tab 2 or G-Slate will be much cheaper, you’re dreaming. I honestly expected the HP TouchPad to hurt the Xoom, but it won’t at $699. For $100 more you get the Xoom with better screen ratio, higher resolution, HDMI out, GPS, and a tablet-optimized OS. Get used to it folks, if you want a tablet from a reputable manufacturer, this is about the price you’re gonna pay. Otherwise, go recycle some ink cartridges and get a discount on your Viewsonic, or get yourself a fine hand-crafted (literally) Notion Ink Adam, put together by the lowest bidder. For me, i’ll be getting my Xoom on launch day. Can’t wait.
i think $800 is alot but you gotta think what the xoom has!!! cameras dual core its upgradable to 4g hd resolution and problably one of the best os i have seen.. we will really see what this tablet really do this upcoming week…

Ha ha ha! Oh, that’s funny. One time investment? You do realize we’re in the era of disposable electronics, right? Even my $2700 DSLR body is consider as such.
wasnt the honeycomb music player on xda a while back ago???

Do we really think that BestBuy is going to have a typo in the second line of the ad? “lighting”? I think the ad is bogus and that the price is still speculative…

$800 = Fail
How to alienate customers in two easy steps:
1. make the new device more expensive then the industry leader
2. make unreasonable demands on your customers (must pay for data plan to unlock the wifi????
If I pay full price for a device…I demand full access to the device…don’t put no conditions on me!
Can’t wait to get my XOOM too!
Can’t wait to get my XOOM too!
A $2700 dslr is only disposible to rich idiots. For the rest of the population, a $2700 dslr would last a lifetime.
Isn’t forcing us to subscribe for a month to unlock the free wifi some kind of extortion? That’s like selling a car and unless u buy a roadside assistance plan, they wont remove their special lug nut lock.
I want my Thunderbolt! I have the MUCH outdated Droid Eris and it has been giving me LOTS of problems lately. I’m thinking that $249 isn’t too bad to remedy the daily headaches with my current phone… Bring it on!
@Nisme While I agree to a point (My 2nd Gen Digital Rebel is still MORE than enough for me after 5 years, and it only cost me $500 at the time) I wouldn’t be so quick to pass judgement on a “rich idiot” If he bought it to take pictures of his dog, then the shoe fits. If he’s a lifetime hobbyist or a professional, then it’s a more than justified purchase.
Looks like our HTC Inspire is only 99$ better deal than spending a 249$ phone no thanks. N Motorola needs to lower their prices on XOOM if they want to sell more
Nlsme-Way to rush to judgement AND be totally clueless about modern cameras. DSLRs are definitely not made like the old film cameras I used to and still shoot with on occasion. CLA and maybe replace the light seals and a film camera is usually ready to go. A DLSR on the other hand has a lot more going on with it. The smallest repair usually runs $300 at least. Yeah, I know this for a fact. At some point, you reach a point of diminishing returns where a repair will exceed the amount that the camera is worth.
.
Then there is the other side of things. As cameras progress, so do the requirements of those buying the images in the end. A DSLR body made a few years ago is already out of spec for their needs. (Whether it really won’t work is actually open to debate but it ultimately is up to those who are buying the photos.)
.
And I’m hardly a rich idiot. I research all of my purchases then cross my fingers and hope I don’t get a product that is among the accepted percentage of failures. (Yeah, think about ALL of those parts and possible points of failure for a second.) Oh! And I work for a not-for-profit art museum which pretty much means, I’m not for profit. I’m not a rich idiot. I just have a better understanding of the reality of the modern electronics market than you seem to. ;)
I hope BestBuy isn’t the only retailer for the Xoom
I hope BestBuy isn’t the only retailer for the Xoom
NONE of you are seeing the valid points not to get the XOOM. Your thinking of buying it for the OS, That’s about it. Every tablet that comes after it will have better hardware and software. And not to mention you’ll all be disappointed when you get one and realize that HONEYCOMB is BETA at best. Theres gonna be a shit ton of bugs.
From what I’ve seen the XOOM in form factor sucks anyway. There no bezel really, which means your gonna have to hold it with two hands at all times. And when the screen times out, the power button on the back which you have to find after you’ve flipped the thing around and cant find any of the buttons.
Hardware ports. There are none really. Wouldn’t you like to be able to plug a thumb drive into it or a full size HDMI cable. Or a USB keyboard.
My LCD Notion Ink Adam has all of this and Honeycomb coming real soon. for $420 shipped to my house.
@21 Lee, I’m not saying it is an idiototic purchase. I am saying to consider it disposable is. For anyone.
I like this website but find all the complaints about the Xoom distracting.
This is a great forum to learn useful information about new devices. For example, I had an iphone and hatedit it as a business device so I went back too windows mobile. I knew nothing about Android until I found this site, by accident. That is when I learned about the pending release of the Droid X so passed on other phones for months. I couldn’t be happier.
From this forum I learned about launcher pro, dolphin, handcent, and a number of other apps that bring android to life, at least for me.g.
I guess what I am saying is share information, features, and potential of the Xoom. Explain how it could be different than competitive devices. Illustrated potential new software potential. We can make up our own mind about cost value.
I have an ipad for work and can’t wait for the xoom.
why are people so excited about Thunderbolt?? it’s not even dual core like the optimus 2x, atrix 4g, or bionix…. it’s just EVO 4G for Verizon (as far as features.. 8 mega pixel, front facing camera, 4g) what is so good about thunderbolt that people are craving this phone?? (i’m not trying to bash thunderbolt i’m just curious) plus to me i think HTC phones are boring now…. they all look the so similar evo4g, thunderbolt, shift 4g, G2, hd2, hd7, etc…. i wanna see some changes like LG, Samsung, and Motorola is doing…

It amazes me to read some of the comments above where people don’t care about the cost. I’ll not be surprised when all is said and done (taxes, case, activation, Verizon stuff, etc. etc.) the cost will be closer to $1000 – if you have the money and don’t care of being led – go for it!
For me the Galaxy Tab starting to look attractive and the rumors about Galaxy Tab 2 coming out shortly, and as much as I dislike Apple, iPAD 2 is around the corner – I’ll wait.
I like the features introduced by the XOOM, and like many others I waited for it, but I think Motorola makes a mistake intimidating people with such price and restrictions – This is a onetime shot for Motorola to capture market share – if people will be driven by the price of XOOM to other options, it will be hard for Motorola to recover even if they try to reduce the cost – But of course Motorola ignores all of us – They know something we don’t – For example, people will buy the XOOM at any cost… time will tell, few more weeks to go.
@ aaron your right no ports at all…. where are you getting your information from.?
Xoom + $800 = DOA
800 bucks is not a bad price for the XOOM considering all its hardware features and where the competition is priced at. Many of you are saying for the money you could get a kickass laptop for the money and your right…you could. But a laptop doesn’t have a touch screen, isn’t as convenient as a mobile device, and just doesn’t certain tasks as well as a tablet. The only thing that irks me is the month data plan to unlock wifi…that’s total BS.
@23 chimp, the same could be said about cars. They aren’t disposable. My points stand.
The xoom is expensive but well justified as others have said but I truly don’t plan on taking it out of my house often enough that I would need to have it as a 3G version….wifi only would be perfect for me because I already have my droid 2 for the 3G needs…and even if the wifi only version is just a little cheaper still worth the price !

Nisme has never heard of a junk yard.
I just love how people are justifying the $800 price tag. Perhaps for what you are getting it is a fair price. The fact of the matter is, EVERYONE doesn’t want all that. I have NO USE for 3G in my tablet when I can wireless tether it with my phone if I really needed to. I’d gladly pay $100+ LESS with 3G as a removed feature. This is iPad’s best competition. The problem is price. People have long looked at Apple as higher-priced. If you offer something for the same price, especially when the iPad is selling like hotcakes, you are probably in a world of hurt.
Too many middle men trying to make a profit
Hmm I thought about this whole 800 price tag for a bit. Then started to realize that honestly 800 isn’t so bad. I mean sure its a shell shocker. We all wanted to pay galaxy tab and Adam prices. But m oto is setting the new bar here. It is, at its current state, the most advance and powerful tab out there. Its main target ATM is apple. It is priced in rang of the now “outdated” ipad. So I see 800 being an ok price. Look on the bright side. For one of the new tabs to come they will prob be a hair lower in price… they will definitely want to dethrown the xoom. So the future will bring good things to us. 2011 seems alot more exciting the 2k10
i got this ad like three weeks ago. whats the big deal?
$800??? WTF? What a dumb ass Motorola!!! Also force user to go to 1 month data plan in order ot use wifi??? WTF. FOR THOSE dumbasses want to buy this tablet at this price, are you out of you f*cking mind??? REMEMBER, the OS is FREEEEEEEE from GOOOGLE, Motorola only makes the hardward any and few tweeks on the software. This price is f*cked up!!! Mototorala needs to take a reality pill, and wake up, this tablet will be eaten alive by other tablet specially iPad 2 (I hate Apple, but I this they will kill this tablet with the price.).
Make a $500 Wi-Fi only tablet Motorola. How hard can it be? Just don’t fill it with useless specs. Keep only the most important ones, like the quality screen, dual core chip, reasonable internal storage and a decent front-camera. You’ll never gain much market share with an $800 price tag for your one and only tablet.
i got this ad like three weeks ago. whats the big deal?
@26aaron There are no need for ports. It uses DNLA for the HDMI and wireless transfer of music/video etc…which works great on my Droid X which has an HDMI output as well. You don’t need the HDMI output with the DNLA. USB keyboard? Sure I guess, but I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse which they can connect to it as well without wires. There will also be accessories to do the same, including a keyboard. You don’t need a USB flash drive drive because you can connect and transfer files from computers wirelessly. If you want a USB connector, then why settle for a USB 2.0? That technology is 10 tens old. You see, this thing works WITHOUT all the wires. That is why you paid less.
Nlsme – Oh boy! You are so naive. Btw, you did know that people are disposable too, right?
Fuckin rediculous, 800 bucks gets an awesome laptop that does all the same shit + way more. Run honeycomb in an emulator on the goddamn laptop… Hey how much do those Ipads cost? Are they trying to keep apple’s market share high?
Stupid. just Stupid. 800 bucks gets an awesome laptop that does all the same shit + way more. Run honeycomb in an emulator on the goddamn laptop… Hey how much do those Ipads cost? Are they trying to keep apple’s market share high?
Okay. That makes them disposable. In that case EVERYTHING is disposable. And, he is talking about a high end dslr, I dont se many Benz’s, Audi’s, or Acuras in junk yards.
This add still has the same spelling errors.
just dropping the mandatory data plan = upgraded to a “don’t buy.”
I understand why people want tablets, but I don’t see how $800 is justifiable for anyone. You can get a freaking m11x for less than that with decent specs -.-
Let alone high end cars.
$800 is too expensive. If Apple could get the iPad to $500 Motorola should be able to get the Xoom to $500 too. I don’t care how good it is. All I want is an iPad quality wifi only Android tablet for $500.
I wonder if I will be able to make phone calls via the browser in Google voice on my Xoom.
Anyone know?

I’m naive, yet you don’t know the differance between “durable goods” and “disposible goods”. Durable goods means an item requiring infrequant replacement(cars, dslrs, xoom’s). Disposable means designed to be disposed of after use, not uses(diapers, napkins, solo cups). Only an idiot treats a $2700 dslr like a napkin. Or, compares a xoom to a solo cup. Pfft.
Anybody that says the Thunderbolt is just an Evo is an idiot and should do their research. It is better than the Evo in many ways. It doesn’t need dual core. It has new gen processor and 768 Megs of RAM. It scores 1930-2000 on quadrant. Dual core is mostly hype, as Froyo nor Gingerbread support dual cores. Honeycomb isn’t coming to phones. So, you have to wait a long time for another version. This phone has the following over the Evo: Faster, more efficient processor, 768 Megs of RAM vs 512 for Evo, SLCD screen, better camera lens, aluminum unibody design, better kickstand, Dolby Surround Sound, New Sense, Swype built into Sense. last but not least…..LTE! It won’t have to be turned on and off like wifi, as you have to do with Wimax…AND IT’S MUCH FASTER!

@sputnick “Many of you are saying for the money you could get a kickass laptop for the money and your right…you could. But a laptop doesn’t have a touch screen”
HP tm2t comes to mind. It starts at, $800.
@tim242 ” It doesn’t need dual core. It has new gen processor and 768 Megs of RAM. It scores 1930-2000 on quadrant.”
But the Bionic scores higher, and quadrants isn’t optimized for dual core.
One point you missed though was talk and data over 3g.
@MEH My concern isn’t whether I can personally afford it but I think the Xoom has the best chance to show that Android tablets are a viable platform in terms of sales and technolgy. If it’s priced too high, it could blunt the momentum that Android has enjoyed.
As for the Xoom. Is it really twice as better as the G-tablet which sells at $400 or the Adam which with 3g and Pixel QI is like $550? Knowing full well that you can load a rom on either to get Honeycomb in the near future (and Honeycomb officially coming to the Adam)?
To me spending $800 on the Xoom means the Xoom will be more functional then a laptop for you. For some this will be true. For others, not so much.
It costs Apple $250 to make an Ipad. Is Motorola really paying that much more for parts? I dont think they are.
Nlsme – The only thing more narrow than you definition of disposable is your mind. You also act like maybe you haven’t been on this planet long enough to realize what REAL durable goods were and that the present state of electronics is nowhere near what it was. Way back in the day, it made sense to keep repairing and using the cameras (radios, tv, etc..) from those days. They used durable materials and techniques. Parts were solid and fairly ubiquitous and people who knew how to perform all repair on them were easy to find. For instance, I still have a TLR from 1965 that is in perfect working order and will continue to work for some time to come. I can still find parts easily or have them machined. There’s even still people around from the original factory to pass on the proper repair procedures. There was pride in craftsmanship.
.
Today, electronics are not made that way at all. They are made to a budget and profit margin. Any student with any econ under their belt can tell you that. ;) A $2700 camera might sound expensive to you but again, you’re pretty naive about the camera market. (And all modern electronics and cars it seems.) That’s still a drop in the bucket. Sometime this year, there will be a replacement for that $2700 camera. The technology in the $2700 although the same as it was years ago will now become a much cheaper model. It will be at such a point that when time comes that something fails on the $2700, I will have to weight if it is worth buying the new equivalent user grade of camera that will undoubtedly have inched up in price due to currency fluctuation and “feature creep”, have the one I have repaired at $$$ or just by the now cheaper technology. Guess what wins out time and time again in the modern consumer field? Options A&C. Why? Because the price of the repairs of modern electronic isn’t justified against the price of a new item. I WISH! they would make DSLRs more of a durable good but that’s just not likely. Sensors have a lifetime, LCDs have a lifetime, chip sets have a lifetime, the solder used has a lifetime. All of that is not engineered to last anyone’s lifetime, it’s engineered to a budget. And that budget is “how low can we go and get away with it?”.
.
This all especially applies to the gadget world! I would love to see a survey of mobile users and see how many bother getting their mobile device repaired or if they just go find a replacement. I suspect it is the latter that will win out. ;)
@Nlsme “I’m naive, yet you don’t know the differance between “durable goods” and “disposible goods”.
Actually it comes down to how you define durable. How many people are going to get a Xoom, then decide thats going to be the only tablet for them for years and years to come? Very, very few. In fact many will trade in the Xoom for the Xoom 2. Hence in the electronics sense a Xoom would be disposable just like cell phone. Sure you dont junk them after one or two uses. But (for the most part) you dont hang onto them for 5 years either.
Who that comes to this site often hangs onto 1 piece of technology for 5 years using like they did as when they got it? The nearest I’ve come is a HDTV, yet its gone from the primary TV to a secondary one.
Money for wifi!!!! Thats ridiculous.
Nlsme – And, if you read through the overall tone of comments about how people feel about the price of the Xoom, I think you’ll realize that most of these people understand what I’m trying to get through to you. The Xoom is a disposable commodity so therefore for most, it is not worth $800.
Zaggs – Thank you, yes, that’s exactly the point.
@MEH My concern isn’t whether I can personally afford it. I think the Xoom has the best chance to show that Android tablets are a viable platform in terms of sales and technolgy. IMO, some Android tablet mfgr needs to step up & knock one out of the parkI and create a must have product and it has to priced within reach. If it’s priced too high, it could blunt the momentum & interest in Android tablets.

wuuuutaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…………….
Maybe you should pick up a fucking dictionary before you say how narrow minded my definition is. Fucking idiot.
Hey, girls, take it outside. Is it really necessary to be fighting in every single comment thread?
Besides the ridiculous price, I was sure this ad was a fake the first time it popped up, but now that it seems like it’s real, it scares me. Not just because of the price, but because it seems like Motorola can’t even proof-read their own ads before they print them. Lightning is spelled “lighting” and Activate is spelled “activative.” I’m still holding out hope for this ad being a fake…
Nlsme – I am currently sitting in a reference library, I’m very aware of how a dictionary works. I have four unabridged dictionaries within a couple of seconds walk. Like I said, your definition is very narrow and incomplete and it seems your argument is now down to name calling. ;) Sorry, but it seems you’re the only one here not getting the concept but that’s no reason to lash out at those who do.
Motorola just handed victory to Samsung.
$800 can buy a reasonably fast PC instead of a measly tablet.
Calling me naive and narrowminded is what got me to call you an idiot the second time, the first time was because of the idiotic post calling a durable good “disposable”. Pick up one those dictionaries and read it. My defintion comes from them. The point I am making is the product is not disposable, it is a durable good. Period. Yes, next year there will be a bettrr model, and yes, some people will upgrade. They dont simply throw them away or “dispose” of them. They sell or trade it in. Just like it has been happening since 1965. Im done here. Read the damn dictionary. Idiot. That time is because you are in a library, yet fail to see the differance between disposable, and disposable.
Durable*
Ohh, and since you seem to have missed it. Cars fit your explanation as to why you claim the xoom and your $2700 dslr are disposable, yet, they are not disposable.
Nice of you to assume that I haven’t picked up any of them and very nice of you to be so abusive. You assume too much and you know what they say about assuming… and you’re doing a very good job of it. Congratulations. ;)
While a one-time use is one definition, it is not the complete and final definition. It has a much broader use than your narrow use that you’re trying to force as the only use of the definition. Which is what a couple of us are trying to point out. (And gee, why only argue with me when there are plenty of others here who also see this clearly as the disposable good that it is.)
Someone else has also explained it to you in addition to myself. Don’t blow a gasket just because you can’t understand the concept the rest of us clearly understand. It really does you no good. Oh, and get a better dictionary before you start arguing definitions would you? Maybe someone will sell you a couple of nice unabridged ones on their old Kindle. After all, if you really believe your argument, why are you even bothering looking at the Xoom? (Think about that answer veeery carefully. ;) )
I think of done enough explaining. Now you can go stew in your little corner of the internet about it. Thanks, and enjoy your day. ;)
Oh, and I guess I have time for one more point before I go. An idiot would be someone who pays you whatever you’re asking for your used POS device when they can get something newer and better for less. ;) Which is why modern electronics are disposable.
There is a huge market for used electronics. Just like cars. And, since you call the defintion of durable goods and disposable. How about you show the definition as something. And not “your” definition. I mean shit, your in a library and all. Because MORE then one has my definition. NOT ONE has yours. If they did, cars would be considered disposable. There not, because the defintion doesnt fit. Even though the anology fits your rant on quality decline.
And, what exactly do you plan on doing with that dslr? Id hope you wont just throw it away, or “dispose” of it. If you do, I call idiot yet again.
Well, guess I’m getting an iPad2.
LOL since when is $800 cheap for a subsidized device?? GTFO rich ass.. Thankfully I am buying neither device because what t-mobile will have is certainly better.
It isnt subsidized.
there gonna be a wifi version soon so that one should be cheap!!!
I hate crapple, but if the xoom is going to sell for $800 i would rather get an ipad.
I’m still not buying into this Best Buy ad. No one seems to mention that Verizon would have the Xoom for sale, in their stores first…..To me, It’s not official until “Verizon” advertises it themselves.. I think these ad “leaks” are induced to get feel for what people are going to pay… $800 is MSRP.. Who buys a car at MSRP?? I believe there is a marketing group at Motorola/Verizon, reading all of the negative response on these online sites and will adjust price. From all i’m reading at $800 it’s a “FAIL”. That’s what i would do. Start a rumor of a high price and lower it to the majority, which would be about $700.. Lets just wait and see….
@53 MY-TWO-CENTS, My adam does DNLA as well, has 2xUSB,1xmini USB,1xFULL HDMI,Micro sd slot, and sim card slot. The problem with DLNA is that most devices that you would use it with on the go probably wont suport it. Like most HDTV’s. This way I dont need a special dock or connector. I can use my Adam for a much broader range of uses than the XOOM. And Its hot plug USB so I can plug my 1tb drive in it. And they’ve had software updates on about a bi-weekly basis for the Adam.
Has it even been two weeks since the finally shipped the adam? And I know it hasnt been a month, so stop bs’ing. The adam doesnt conpare anywhere but rice. And, good luck with that no name, new to the game company. They delayed it for MONTHS ffs.
101st commenter!! whoo!
Dont need luck. If it breaks, ill just buy another one and still not have paid as much as a XOOM.
when are tablets gonna have a CD/DVD drive?
And when that breaks? And the xoom is a lot more because it is more. Like I said, the adam only compares in price.
Is the Motorola Xoom overpriced at $800 dollars? At this point in time that is hard to say because there is a high demand for tablets, IPAD sales number support this. When high sale numbers for the IPAD and a limited number of quality android tablets to choose from the prices will be high. This is basically due to the lack of competition from other manufactures at this time to drive competitive pricing.
I know there is the arguemnent that you can get more for your money in a laptop. Well that is true but just look at the competition in the market for laptops. It would be easy to say that on any given day you walk into Bestbuy there are over 25 laptops to choose from. If at this point in time if you walked into Best Buy and had 25 different android tablets to choose from there would be better pricing and options.
Right now Motorola has no quality competition so they can charge a higher price and verizon can require one month activation. Once there are more tablets on the market you will see better pricing and wifi only models.
So if you dont like the pricing of the ZOOM or the mandatory one month contract to unlock wifi the heat should be put on other manufactures to produce their tablets. When there is a demand and competition is little manufactures are going to make the largest profitable.
Bottom line we need the competition for better pricing and options to be avaliable
Guys, would it really be so hard to keep the debates a bit more civil on Phandroid? C’mon, we’re just discussing technology, not life or death. Try to take the attitude when disagreeing of “OK, I hear ya, I see where you’re coming from … but I look at it differently and here’s why.”
Looks like Moto is taking a que from Apple. Early adopter tax anyone? I’ll stick with my gen one Ipad for now.. Unless these devices can hit 400 – 500 I want be getting anything new.

@nisme 104. What more does the XOOM offer, no opinions. Actual facts. Advertizing really does work on you doesn’t it.
More memory, higher resoluyion, faster processor latest software, build quality, just anything but price. I would NEVER deal with a startup electronic company. NEVER. Its like comparing a KIA to a real car. Notion Ink delayed the adam gor MONTHS ON END.
And, there really hasnt been any advertising done, so yo snyde comment is a faoled attempt to troll.
Like my failed attempt to spell.
I have been saving up for the Xoom but know that there will be an Ipad 2 coming I think i’ll wait to compare! Maybe when the Ipad to comes out the 1st Ipads will drop in price and i’ll snag one of those.
But yea I will be getting the Thunderbolt. Does anyone know the benefit of getting the TB from Best Buy or waiting for Verizon?
Will all you people quit complaining about the price? Remember you get what you pay for… Oh waaa the xoom cost $800 dollars an the thunderbolt costs 750 with no contract… Get used to it! An stop bickering it’s not going to change the price for your dumb cheap lazy a** you go get your gay galaxy tab with unapproved software or find a better job. Now get your useless motorola citrus or cliq off this site its for real droid enthusiast’s cause we know you get what you pay for. An I for one will definatly be getting a xoom why because I know it will definatly be worth the price! Its not too bad for the number 1 rated device at CES.
They use the same processor and ram idiot. And higher screen res will just slow the XOOMS GPU down. Once again, 1terrabite external drive. Or 128gb thumb drive. Adam has more
Okay here a valid comment. ha ha ha.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Motorola+-+XOOM+Tablet+/+NVIDIA+Tegra+Processor+/+10.1%22+Display+/+1GB+Memory+/+32GB+Hard+Drive+-+Licorice/1946179.p?id=1218305636450&skuId=1946179&st=motorola%20xoom&cp=1&lp=1
For one, the adam doesnt come with a ter., if you want to compaare aftermmarket products, the adam fails yet again. Notion lost my interest after MONTHS of delays. Its still a pos, from a start up company. Ill take my real high end tablet over a shitty one from a company with 0 experiance.
your real overpriced tablet you mean. Check out todays headlines on engadet.com. $1200 at best buy dork
Blah blah blah, enjoy that pos adam.
Maybe you should read more than the headline. Since you failed to see the question mark. Its only 800.
I think there is a small group of people that either have the disposable income to spare or kids and adults who have not learned the value of a dollar yet that are not going to be bothered by the $800 price. For the rest of us $800 can feed our families for 2 months. So if you have the cash great, you are going to get a great tablet. Just don’t try to feed me the crap that $800 dollars isn’t bad for a product that is more of a novelty item than a necessity.

Nlsme – Wow! So quick to dismiss others even when their arguments are very much valid. That’s ok though,I’ll humor you. Here are some of the definitions you asked for:
.
From Webster’s 3rd New International Dictionsry – Unabridged ;)
.
Entry 2: capable of being disposed of easily; esp: designed to be thrown away after use with only negligible loss. (Note, one time use was not among any of the entries.)
.
From the Oxford English Dictionary volume 4 (Because that is where the D’s start in this dictionary. ;) ):
.
Entry 2a: capable of beig disposed of; that may be got rid of, made over, or dealt with in some way. (Note, one time use was entry 3 after 2b.)
.
And one more for you from the American Heritage Dictionary:
.
Entry 1: designed to be disposed of after use. (Note, again, no mention of one time use.)
.
So there you have it and indeed modern electronics are made more to be disposed of than they are to be repaired for reuse. Pretty simple. And judging from how your spelling and coherence has been degrading as each day goes on. I’d say this should pretty much put you over the edge and have a stroke. But, I take no responsibility as you really should have taken my advice and got that used Kindle with the unabridged dictionaries (or any unabridged dictionary for that matter) instead of looking up whatever source that you used and didn’t site. Like I said, I do know what I’m doing. ;)
YOu know what the problem of this type of price?
You(anyone besides who makes ipad) are going into a new territory w/ unproven os against industry leader who owns 95% of the market(in terms of what end user actually uses).
Just because you have better hardware specs(for time being), you want to come in w/ $800 price tag?
I hate apple but at least apple gave people what they can use as viable tablet in year 2010 when no one else wanted to take a chance.
Shouldn’t other droid based tablet entering 2011 for the first time give consumer a hope by really lowering the price?(Xoom for $599 ??)
W. T. F is going on??
Notice I said, and I quote “after use(not uses)”, but thanks for posting MY definition 3 times. Ill give you one last idiot. IDIOT.
Ohh and since your reading comprehension fails, you need to get definition of durable goods. You know, the one that involves “infrequent replacement”. Its either or, not both. Id say annual os pretty infrequent. Let alone 2 years or more wich all my electronics last.
Nlsme – I’m sorry, there’s nothing wrong with my reading comprehension at all. It’s just that I don’t speak crazy gibberish like you do here. The logical following of the posted conversation would be that you asked for the definition of disposable. I gave you what was logically asked and it quite clearly relates to what I was saying. You, OTOH, kept going on about one time use which is either not among the definitions in these well accepted sources that I cited or came later (which usually mean it is less important) in the entries. I gave the definitions as asked for AND quoted sources. To further my argument in a much better organized fashion than your loony ranting, here’s something else for you to chew on:
.
http://www.edmontonjournal.com/technology/Your+local+repairman+signing/4234638/story.html
.
And I’m pretty confident that is happening many places around the US. So, there you go. I think that’s a pretty solid argument versus what? Some wild ranting with nothing to back it up on your behalf?
Tell you what. You show me one solid credible survey that shows people would rather repair their modern electronics than just go out and buy a new one, and you might just have yourself some stable footing…. but I doubt you will. ;) And with that, I’m done here. Enjoy that stroke you’re working on there buddy. Just remember, you too are disposable. After you kick the bucket, someone else will be in to replace you. Thanks, enjoy now. Off to enjoy my weekend with my $2700 that when it breaks, I’ll just be replacing as it will be cheaper to do. ;)
Oh! I should point out one other little detail for you. You cannot define a word by just repeating that word. So instead of defining idiot with idiot. How about trying idiot: see Nlsme. There you go, now you have a proper definition. :)
Your just a troll
Trolls don’t put forth logical and coherent arguments with cited sources. Trolls tend to babble incoherently. Which would make the troll….. you! Congratulations! You win that contest! :P
.
Seriously, you haven’t put forth anything worthy, just name calling. Go home, your mom is calling you kid.
Dude, your “cited” source was MY definition. Now, open up that dictionary, and read the definition of “durable goods”. It can only be either a “durable good” or disposable. Things that are disposable don’t come with a warranty. Period, end of story. I’m done here.
I’m sorry, have you shown anything here that proves your point that a) disposable only means one time use like you were initially saying (and not whatever it is that you think you’re now changing it to since you seem to be a total nutjob)? Nope. You sure haven’t.
.
Have you shown anything here that people would rather hold on to the modern electronics and continue to use them and have them fixed versus just replacing them and relegating the old to disuse? Nope. You sure haven’t. In fact, in this thread alone, I’ve been backed up whereas you have not.
.
Thank you but just sitting there calling me idiot while your spelling and syntax declines isn’t a debate, it’s an embarrassment to yourself. At this point, the debate is over and as time goes on, it will only continue to swing my way. Really, I advise you go get a hobby or something before you blow a gasket and fall over. It will be far healthier for you. This obviously is not. You really aren’t up to this task. And since this is now over. I’m out of here. Want to argue with someone, go find a brick wall and yell at it. You might, just might, be smarter than it. ;) As for me, it’s nice out so I’m off to enjoy it. You know, with my $2700 camera (oh, and $1500 one too) until it breaks and needs to be replaced and my $500+ phone that when it breaks, I will also just replace. Thank you, bye bye now. Enjoy your stroke or whatever it is that’s causing your mental meltdown. Bye bye now. :)
And no need for quotes around the word cited, those are real sources. Might want to try that someday. ;)
I quoted cited because you seemed so proud to post my definition. Now, good look up the durable goods. Its one or the other. Like I said, disopsable items dont come with warranties. You truly are an idiot, and just because you say they are disposableI dont know to many people that dispose of a warrantied product when it breaks, they usually get them fixed. Like I said, I’m done with. You make an idiotic point either because you are an idiot, or a troll. Either way, your truly not worth the time.
And you disnt notice your sources are my definition. WORD FOR WORD. Except for the one that is so vague that EVERYTHING falls under. Houses, cars, planes, everything will eventually need to be replaced. Doesnt make them a disposable item. The differance is a “durable good” only requires replacement on an infrequent basis.
Nlsme – Ha ha! Well, allow me to cite another source to prove my point, shall we? Let’s!
“67.Nlsme wrote on February 12, 2011
I’m naive, yet you don’t know the differance between “durable goods” and “disposible goods”. Durable goods means an item requiring infrequant replacement(cars, dslrs, xoom’s). Disposable means designed to be disposed of after use, not uses(diapers, napkins, solo cups). Only an idiot treats a $2700 dslr like a napkin. Or, compares a xoom to a solo cup. Pfft.”
No, you pretty much blatantly indicate one time use only here. Which is not the definition I highlight THREE times. I pointed out that your definition that you indicate here is only used ONCE in any of those real sources I quote. Don’t call people idiots when they can easily go back and quote you. ;) Please, point me to a post # above where you said word for word what I had posted for definitions. I don’t think you can.
.
No, people generally do replace electronics and cars on a very regular schedule. They do it so regularly that the companies making these goods can keep producing en masse and easily sell to us all, year after year after year. If people were treating these goods as durable goods, then these companies wouldn’t be so encouraged to keep producing in the sheer quantities that they do. ;) And they wouldn’t know how often the typical consumer replaces their goods but they do! Cellphones, that would be about once a year now. P&S cameras, about once a year also. DSLRs, about every two years and by that time the camera you have isn’t worth enough to sell so it usually just languishes in some dark place, which is again, a way of disposing of something. ;)
.
And! They know that they only have to engineer their product to last so much time before it breaks. Do you think it is a coincidence that things break just outside of their warranty period? Ha! Nope, it isn’t at all.
.
Really, you can stop with the name calling. It definitely doesn’t make you look smarter or your incoherence any more coherent. It’s you who isn’t grasping the concept and keep babbling.
.
You’re the one comparing Xooms and DSLRs to cups and napkins, I made no such statement. Again, please feel free to find that quote in the posts above.
.
Btw, what is it that you do? Just curious about what kind of person you are and who would employ you. :P
I just pointed out the word use wasnt plural. That negates your whole arguement. Like i said word for word. Like I said idiot.
So, i cant show you how when you compare xooms and dslrs to dispsable items, it fails? Okay.
Like I said, my electronics last well beyond their warranty. The average lifespan of a car is well over ten years. Not really frequent. ALL youe points fail. ALL of them.
I’m sorry, which post # should I look at again? Where’s that survey I asked you about? What is it that you do? ;) Only thing you’ve produced is a bunch of name calling and the very trite and meaningless argument of “fail” which so far, I have produced A LOT more citing than you have so therefore, I have not failed, I’ve won. You haven’t addressed a single thing I’ve asked you. THAT would be failure. ;)
You “cited” MY defintion. Thats one of the many reasons why your an idiot.
You have yet to ask me anythibg, yo “cited”MY definition, and claim you won. That is a fail.
I have asked you for quite a few things. Denying that I have does not make it go away. ;) I asked you for a credible survey. Go back and look. I also asked you to reference in which post number I cited your definition word for word. You haven’t. I’ve asked you quite a bit actually, sometimes more than once. I’ve even asked you what it is that you do. You can’t answer ANY of those very simple requests. And instead of producing, you just resort to name calling and a WHOLE LOT of unintelligible gibberish. Which is a very clear sign you have lost it and you have lost this debate. Thanks, this was easy. You’ve been such a fun troll to play with. I enjoyed playing with you very much. We really should do this again. :)
Dude, no survey will change the definition. The post that you posted definitions is where you posted my definition word for word. Yes, I added (not use’s) because I wanted to point out it wasn’t plural. IF, it WAS plural, you would have a case. Now know this, manufacturers are reuired BY LAW to warranty a “durable good”, not so with “disposable” items. How is that for a credible survey, the LAW.
Oh, but it is plural though. I doubt that you throw away those napkins during dinner after each time you wipe your face and I doubt you use a separate cup for each sip. Each of those would be uses. ;) And your logic is very flawed. Just because an item has a warranty doesn’t mean it is a durable good. Again, learn how to debate, you’re making huge assumptions and you still can’t solidly point to any sources. You still don’t get it. Wow!
So, uh, survey please. Also the exact post number where you specifically posted the definitions I posted WORD for WORD. (You keep saying but you haven’t shown the proof. Just make some lame excuses or changes to your definition.) And what it is that you do exactly. Yeah, either put up or shut up. You haven’t set a single pillar to stand on yet.
When the napkin is soiled I throw it away. Thats ONE use. I dont wash it to get more USES. Same with the cup. When I am finished, I don’t wash it to get more USES. Disposable diapers get shitty, I dispose of them. Before disposable diapers people washed cloth ones, and got MULTIPLE uses. Now I think you are acting like an idiot just to troll. Im done here, keep making your idiotic claims.
It doesn’t matter if you love it or (like me) think its too expensive for such a device. They missed the price point. If their business model only allows for such a high price compared to other offerings in the market the device will languish at the top of the market. In other words its a device that won’t be well supported by the manufacture in the next few years because they’ll only sell low numbers.
Ohh, and the fact that it has a warranty doesnt make it a durable good. But, the fact that it is a durable good means they are required by law to have a warranty. Toasters, by law are sold with a warranty. Electronics, by law, are required to have a warranty. Cars are required, by law to have a warranty. Disposable items have no such legal requirement.
Nlsme – But you quite clearly stated:
.
“Now know this, manufacturers are reuired BY LAW to warranty a “durable good”, not so with “disposable” items. How is that for a credible survey, the LAW.”
.
Surely you can produce this law, yes? And of course, be sure to show where within that law it says all electronics are indeed durable goods. ;) Of course, you have yet to produce ANYTHING you’ve been asked for, just more name calling. So who is the idiot troll here? That’s right, you are! Congrats once again! :P
.
Like I said, put up or shut up. So far, you’ve done neither. Yeah, I’ve made claims and I’ve backed them with facts. ;)
.
I bet you’re so cute when you’re about to have one of your strokes. :P
Really, show definition that says 2700 dollar dslr’s are disposable. You have yet to show anything other then MY definition.
Like I said, MY definition can be found in ANY dictionary. Yours, in NONE. How is that for citing a source.
Your definitions? Once again, put up or shut up. Show me where up above you posted the same definitions I posted. Go ahead post the post number where you stated what I wrote out word for word. Um, can’t do that, can you?
.
I asked you for that first. You don’t even need to go search anywhere, just look up and post the number. I can only see one reason for you not to do that and that would be the fact that you can’t because it doesn’t exist. So once again, thanks. I win, you lose, go cry to someone who cares.
.
Heck, show me a post where you even list a single citing. Not a one! You can post a single post number, a single survey, can’t even tell us what it is that you do and now you can’t post the law you think exists and point to where is discusses electronics?
.
Put up or shut up. And you think I’m the troll?!? Wow! You’re crazy. It’s obvious you have nothing. Absolutely nothing. Until you post stuff that actually backs you up (hell, not even anyone here backed you up!), you haven’t anything. Enjoy, thanks.
And nobody here backed you up either. I dont need to point it out you did. Then you went on to point out that it didnt say single use. Well if it is plural, that means one. Right. Yes, there is a law requiring a warranty on durable goods. Like I said, look in ANY (citing EVERY dictionary here), and you will find MY definition. What you wont find is YOUR definition. Hundreds of posts later, and you have yet to show how a $2700 dslr qualifies as “disposable”. Not only do I tbink your a troll, but you are definately an idiot.
If it isn’t plural, that means its singular.
Ha ha ha! Wow! You really are the idiot here:
.
“75.Zaggs wrote on February 12, 2011
@Nlsme “I’m naive, yet you don’t know the differance between “durable goods” and “disposible goods”.Actually it comes down to how you define durable.
The nearest I’ve come is a HDTV, yet its gone from the primary TV to a secondary one.”
.
Look at that! I have shown yet another source. And you’ve shown…..nothing. Thanks. ;)
.
Once again, you’re just babbling unintelligibly while I post sources. And once again, I say put up or shut up. You haven’t done either. Come on, if I’m an idiot and I can cite sources and point to exact posts above, surely someone sooooo smart as yourself can. Oh wait! You haven’t though which makes you dumber than the person you’re calling an idiot and a troll.
.
So I really want to know what it is that you do for a living or what it is that you’re studying school. Seriously, that way we know to avoid whatever it is that you do as you lack any comprehension skills, communication skills or even logic.
.
And as an extra reminder, put up or shut. Stop your lame excuses and silly circular logic not based in reality. ;)
Oh, and if I may also point out, once again, you’re trying to bend a definition into just your narrowminded little world. The word “use” is a much larger word than you give it credit for. But no, you’re too narrowminded, and I guess dumber than an idiot, to understand that concept. ;)
Itss either use or uses. One is singular and one is plural. You even tried, but failed, to say napkins and cups are designed for multiple uses.
Nlsme, why do you always fall for the trolls. Obviously the xoom is not disposable. Obviously, dlsr’s are not disposable. Seriously, just let him say it, it isn’t hurting anyone. Either he is a troll, or, as you put it, an idiot. Either way, you won’t win. Just let it go.
Yeah, that’s because you’re too simple to understand the “advanced” concepts (Which are simple for anyone else.) that are being explained to you here. I really can’t make it any simpler for you. Hmm, wow, how does it feel to not be able to understand simple concepts that even someone you deem and idiot can understand? :P You must feel really stupid, eh?
.
But, enough with your distractions. Put up or shut up.
Like I said, only an idiot calls a $2700 dslr disposable. You have failed to understand a rather definition. You have shown who you are. An idiot.
You should change your name. Your level of intelligence is insulting to chimps everywhere.
I’m sorry, what was that gibberish you posted in #163? ;)
.
Ah, again, you’re all name calling and nothing to show for it. Put up or shut chump. :P
Just in case you missed that, name calling isn’t proof. Put up or shut up.
A definition is a definition. Every word in that definition makes up that definition. It wass singular for a reason. Because, IF it was plural, it. Would change the definition. Now, durable goods also jas a definition. Again, this definition can be found in ANY (citing it for you) “an item requiring infrequent replacement”. Get it, it is one or the other. Not how “I” define them, rathet how they are defined. Nobody cares how “you” define them. You can’t make up your own definitions. You have to use THE definition. The ones found in dictionaries. You cabn find “my” definitions in ANY dictionary. Why? Because those ARE the definitions.
Blah, blah, blah,
.
Post numbers, survey, job title, etc. Put up or shut up. Prove it. Troll.
.
Yeah, I called you a troll. Unlike you, I can prove it. ;)
.
https://ydfgg.com/2010/12/22/htc-evo-shift-4g-photographed/
Looks like you’re also a troll at Techalps and androidwebportal. You love to call names there too. Unfortunately, I’m not being allowed to post the links but it looks like I don’t have to as you probably already know as well as a few other people who are also here.
.
So, now seeing that you will never ever actually post up any facts at all that can be backed up because you’re just a troll and seeing that there is wide spread proof of you being the actual idiot. This is indeed over.
.
I’ve asked you to put up any proof you had and you haven’t. You do not own definitions and it is not your place to distort and warp them to fit your warped and distorted narrowminded point of view.
.
Stop playing your little troll games and your video games and go get a life and girlfriend. The rest of us adults know how to debate and how to back up our statements. Leave it to us, you go home and play with your dolls. I’m sorry, action figures.
.
To answer any other posts you might put up…..
.
Put up or shut up. Nothing to back you up? You have nothing.
Btw,if you look at post 140, I’ve already addressed your point. Thanks. ;)
Dude, me saying the evo has a crappybattery is not me being a troll. I dont visit those sites you speak of. And look above. My definition is found in EVERY dictionary. Yours, nowhere. Also, look above, and take note, others in this thread agree with me. You sir, are an idiot. Thats not calling names. Thats calling a spade a spade. Your clueless. To proceed to to talk to you, is a further waste of my time. Do yourself a favor, and learn the differance between a durable good, and a disposable item. Good day sir.
Pffft- Oh good, now I have proof you’re a liar too. Thanks :) Your credibility keeps swirling down the toilet.
Well, that’s one liar of a troll who doesn’t have a clue and can’t back his stuff up down.
Nlsme – see, you couldn’t produce proof then and you still can’t. ;)
Idiot
