So Apple’s iPhone 4 was introduced as the world’s thinnest smartphone, then LG vowed to trump them with the LG Optimus Black. And now NEC’s getting into this aggressive shoving contest: the NEC Medias is just 7.7mm thin.
To compare, the Galaxy S 2 is 8.49mm, the Optimus Black is 9.2mm, and the iPhone 4 is 9.3mm thin. Those phones are pretty damn thin. And if these pictures are anything to go by, I don’t know if it’s technically possible to get any thinner than this. (With a smartphone, anyway.)
Here are the rest of the specs that make up the NEC Medias:
- size: 127×62×7.7mm
- weight: 105g
- Android 2.2 as the OS
- 4-inch LCD with 854×480 resolution
- 5.1MP camera
- 800MHz CPU
- three buttons on the bottom (from left to right: menu, home, back) plus on/off button at the top left (see pic below)
- digital TV tuner
- e-wallet function
Not amazing, but not horrible. And the size alone may pull a good amount of folks in. [Draft Life with Blog, Datacider via Mobile Crunch]
The Galaxy S was already too damn thin.
With TV Tuner? Is it has worldwide support?
Otherwise the phone looks awesome.
I actually prefer a thick phone, so then its more durable from falls. I think 10-15 mm is perfect!
I agree, the original Galaxy S is already thin enough. I don’t see the appeal in having a wafer thin phone. It only makes it more difficult to hold and easier to slip out of your hands. Most people will put a case over their phone to protect it anyways, making the thin factor pointless.
Wow, that’s thin, but I’m positive there will eventually be an even thinner phone. I don’t see the appeal, though, since I’ve never felt my phone is too thick. Going from a phone that thin to a bulkier one might feel weird, though.
Don’t agree if you can make the frame sturdy enough.
I for one don’t use a case over my galaxy S. It is not a MUST on this phone compared to the iP 4 (A friend put a case that made it DOUBLE the size of that already big and heavy phone!!:S ). Back is just a simple plastic shell. Simply replaceable if needed.
Didn’t like the design in the beginning but after a while you think it is pretty smart!
Continue give us case optional phones!!;)
I like my phones like I like my women….just a little thick.
Thin phones…..I skipped the Razr craze cuz it looked too thin.
.
Phones are getting bigger screens, phones bodies are getting thinner…Might not be a good combo..
thin phones = less to move about = less chance of breaking from a fall
I personally don’t use a case b/c it makes the phone to bulky (og droid). If I had a thinner phone id put a case on it cause its smart to protect it.
But thin or thick it really cones down to build quality. My og droid has taken many drops without cracking or anything. It is a solid build. Some of the new phones feel very cheap to me.
This is the thinnest smartphone in the world, I hope to soon have it
