You XOOM tinkerers have a few goods to wake up to today. Firstly, the OTA update that Motorola issued today is rolling out, and users don’t have to jump through hoops to get the file. The installation is a bit involved, however. Flashing the file will take you to stock Android 3.0.1 and will unroot and re-lock your device. Instructions can be found at the very bottom of this post. At the same time, SlateDroid hackers have come out with a mod that allows you to use your XOOM’s USB port in USB Host mode, effectively allowing you to plug up USB flash drives, USB keyboards, and more. This process is pretty involved too, but we’ll elect to forward you to SlateDroid to ensure you’re getting the most up-to-date set of instructions and community support. [AC]
Instructions:
*You’ll need the Android SDK for this. You should already have it if you unlocked though.
1. Download this file to your computer: HRI39.zip (you may have to register)
2. Extract the contents into your Android SDK Tools folder.
3. Open a command prompt from within your Android SDK Tools folder.*Make sure nothing is selected and hold SHIFT+Right click – select “Open command window here.”
4. Type: adb reboot bootloader
5. Type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
6. Type: fastboot flash system system.img
7. Type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
8. Type: fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
9. Type: fastboot erase cache
10. Type: fastboot oem lock
11. Your XOOM will now re-lock and you should be ready for the update.
I want to play with one and see if it has many force closes like my 2.2.1 does on galaxy S. If so I am pry going iPad2 n jailbreakin R

@craigmier….i have had 0 force closes except one app but out was the app not honeycomb. The only reason to buy ipad2 over a honeycomb tablet would be the app store, even then android will quickly catch up!
@JMax I actually did a bit more digging and found out that the teams who were supposed to crack Android never even showed up, thus why Android “won”. Kind of pointless in retrospect. It was also partly because of those commenters, but they alone wouldn’t have persuaded me to do that. Thanks for your concern!
Good call on checking Slatedroid, directly. I had actually released this a few hours before the Xoom firmware update was announced so I already had to make a note on what firmware this is for.
