If you have been toying around with the leaked build of Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Motorola Droid X or Droid 2, try this out: when you first launch the official Verizon 3G Mobile Hotspot application you will be greeted with the standard warning of impacted battery life and increased data usage. Only, the application suggests you should head over to att.com/wireless to sign up for a plan. No, Verizon isn’t the next to be bought out by the AT&T. More likely parts of this ROM are being shared between development for the Motorola Atrix 4G and these Verizon Droids. This no doubt will be corrected by the final build, but is worth a laugh for the moment.
In other news, DroidLife is reporting that using the leaked official Gingerbread ROM on the Droid X or Droid 2 gives users free access to these Mobile Hotspot features, even if it isn’t included on your plan. It may have something to do with the function being offered for free until May with the HTC Thunderbolt, or simply be a bug in this pre-release software. If you are using the ROM and decide to kick on the hotspot features, be warned we can’t say how it will affect your bill or contract with Verizon.

Yeah. Verizon had always had killer phones, but they have nickel and dime you too much. Dont be a sucker, go with or change to another carrier.
I never have to worry about data usage on Sprint, and I only pay 71.32 per line on my 2-line family plan (tax, fees and insurance included). :)
$134 for 2 Evo 4Gs and one other phone here (including the 23% company discount) ;)
171 (probably a few less) for 8 lines: 4 evos, 4 feature phones (only 2 don’t have texting).
Really? for 3 lines with Verizon we only pay 145.94 every month. That is with unlimited Data, Texting on all the lines and 1400 min. This is due to the promotional plan that was offered some months back. This is less than 50.00 per line. Not even Boost can claim that. So we get the best service and network ( Verizon) with the least cost. There are deals with every carrier, if you know where to look.
I thought Boost was 55 dollars everything unlimited ? Wait a minute, it’s now $50 per month including shrinkage which will decrease your monthly bill to $35 per month per line… You are right, there are better deals out there…
I had Verizon before, and even with the 23% company discount, we are paying nearly $300 for three lines…and it’s due to the fact that we had 2 BB Storms back then which incurs an extra $25 per phnoe. Maybe you have regular phones, no?
I dont get it, in the US you have to pay to enable wifi hotspot ? Dude, that sucks…
way to make GB ugly moto.
Anything’s better than that horrible white notification bar, as far as I’m concerned.
But on the matter of the hotspot thing…. I lol’d. Well done, moto.
Not with my “blur-free” Nexus One. (SEG)
This looks extraordinarily like the Mobile AP app that was been kicking around for awhile as part of the Galaxy S line-up ROMs. My Vibrant custom ROM from Bionix has the same AT&T language.
This just reminds me of the one phone with a one carrier thing hehehe
CM7 ftw. No Moto Blur!
All of you missed the point. Expect an announcement by Friday that Rape T&T is buying Verizon. BWWAHAHAHAHA! This leak was not supposed to happen, and now our hand has been tipped. Soon, the world will be OURS!
#$%@, actually, as a Tmob customer…I’m hating my future right now.
I dont think this is “leaked”, i think this is ripped from another phone. i dunno wich phones run 2.3 tho.
Root your phone and get free tethering. On Verizon I pay just under 70 bucks a month for unlimited everything with the discount I get through my employer. And free wireless tether is the cherry on top.
Once the ATT/Tmobile deal goes through, we should all expect to pay more due to less competition. Anyone got a few billion to start their own cell service?
That’s bs, I have 3 lines and only one with data and its $160 a month. data is $30 per line and besides that I have never heard anyone refer to verizon as cheap at all let alone the cheapest

Same thing happened with leaked versions of TMO roms that had the MobileAP app. Same exactly link to AT&T was included. My guess is that whoever these companies are hiring to develop the MobileAP app is the same person, and that person uses AT&T primarily, and is lazy about changing branding on beta versions.
