The Thunderbolt has been out since the 17th of March and enough users have it in their hands to uncover some unsettling issues. Before I go on, you should know that both HTC and Verizon have identified the respective issues and are working on fixes. First up – we hear some of you are still having data issues while on Verizon’s 3G network.
Word on the street is that Verizon’s already working to fix the issue with their network but we’re not sure how long it’ll take. Thankfully for us, the Android community consists of some very smart brainiacs and they’ve come up with a solution to get things back to normal. You can find instructions below. (Thankfully it doesn’t require root or a device factory reset.)
- Go to the ThunderBolt’s phone dialer. Enter ##778# and hit Send.
- You’ll get a pop-up labeled EPST, with the choice to “View Mode” or “Edit Mode.” You want “Edit Mode.”
- You’ll be asked for a password. It’s 000000.
- Now flip down to “Modem Settings,” and then choose “Rev. A.”
- Change the setting from eHRPD to “Enable,” hit OK, then press the Menu button on the phone and tap “Commit Modifications.”
In other Thunderbolt news, it seems there’s a problem when recording video – audio will sometimes appear to be muffled when the original recording wasn’t captured with something covering the device’s microphone hole. HTC has identified the problem and is working on a fix but they were unable to offer a time-frame. Are any of you having these issues? [via Android Central 1|2]
I’m having this problem as I type this but I’m not too worried I know fixes will come

i’ve had no 3G data issues whatsoever…not sure what that is all about. wonder if it’s a regional thing

The phone runs a constant synch error with Ms exchange 2010 but. Only for calendar function. It wont send and receive info correctly and constantly displays synch error in app drawer. I have resorted back to touchdown.

My main problems are the random reboots, and how long the phone takes to actually boot up (maybe because of sense?).
I had the battery life issue, but I had Verizon send me an extended battery for free (which is decent), but the lack of an actual case available that is designed for the extended battery, makes everything annoying.
None of the problems individually were so bad that I would return it, but all of them together make me consider it. I keep telling myself that at least I am grandfathered into Verizon’s 4G LTE at least.

I should of also added that those having trouble with the 3G signal oscillations (regardless of carrier) download the app ‘restart connections’. As it makes a world of difference resetting the radio so as not to have to go through the reboot process (especially on the TB).

What ????? Small price to pay????? You just paid nearly three hundred dollars for a device that has a disabled feature. A feature that you are supposed to get….
What are you talking about ass…it’s a feature that works, but not solidly. It works great for mine and many others. It’s a “hit or miss” I suppose. There is a fix coming too. Too high of demand on this phone to keep it until it’s perfect. It is exactly what the public asked for. It’s not a “disabled” feature you moron. Too bad haters like you have such a bad attitude. Go see a shrink to get those issues resolved.

The audio issue has been blamed on the “working” noise cancellation software. It works too well. A fix is in the works…

It was, the only problem the EVO had when it came out and still has is the battery. I am unaware of any other problems that the EVO had when it was introduced. By the way I have the EVO and I have had no problems with it other than battery issues.

1) The battery life is beyond horrid. The extended battery makes it somewhat okay, but Verizon should not have expected this to be acceptable with this huge battery from 1998.
2) There are quite a few apps that are not compatible. They either state they aren’t compatible and will close down or they force close when you try to start them. Most other apps work okay for about 3-4 minutes and will just force close in the middle of using them.
3) GPS is not always accurate.
4) 4G data issue = a big pain my rear. It’ll show 4G in the notification area. I will try to access the internet and it will sit there and eventually give me a page not found error or a connection error, then the 4G symbol will go away, it’ll come back up and I will try again. I will try that 3 – 4 times and still won’t work. I will then put my phone in airplane mode (or restarted and done a battery pull) and it will come back up in 1X or 3G at the top. Other times it still seems to be okay and works fine. Then about and 2 hours later it start doing the same thing. I am having to restart my phone about 4-5 times a day to keep a 4G connection.
I have a Thunderbolt, and this is what I got…
1. Battery isnt that good. I charge mine through out the day so I don’t what the life is on it. I expected this as I had the HTC INC…
2. I have 168 apps on my phone with no issue with them being incompatible. I think I had one force closing, but I don’t remember which one.
3. GPS is dead on. Make sure you go thru the options to improve accuracy. You can also calibrate the internal compass.
4.If your 4g is going in and out, prob explains your battery issue. A MR should help get this back up and may help with your GPS as well.

We have LTE throughout the entire metro area. I called the VZW store and said they are aware of the issue and HTC is working on a software update.

I only have two issue. The video play back is very low even with the volume to the max. The other issue is the battery. it won’t last that long.

i have three chargers: home, work and car. That’s how i get through the day. Else it is flawless with mind blowing speeds. Consistently above 15Mbps download (hoping that bevy of 4G devices releasing next month does not affect the speed)

I guess I’m one of the lucky ones. I don’t seem to have either problem. I’ve taken a total of about an hour of video since I got the phone and all the videos have been great. played back on my computer and sound is fine. Also I’m in the NYC southern Westchester area with a pretty strong 4G presence and the occasional switch to 3G has been pretty seamless. no complaints and battery life has been better than what was being written. I get through the day on a full charge, about 9 hours or so, obviously awake time being about 1-2 hours. Loving this phone.

Just a heads up on this, HTC has stated that this “audio problem” is not a hardware issue, no need to change your phone, it has something to do with the noise cancellation software used on the release version. They are working on a fix…

I have the thunderbolt and i hate the dam phone. Always data problems. Always says cannot connect to the network. when i bought the phone the dam sales women said there was a know data problem with the phone and in 2 weeks there would be an update so i waited and no update brought it back to the store 16 days after buying it and they said sorry there is no time frame on an update so i was freakin stuck with the dam thing. And no verizon will not do a dam thing to make it right. All they say is will send you a referbeshed phone. and for 300 dollars im sorry i want a new one. Got no where. Thinking about taking my 5 lines else wear. cant believe the customer service at verizon very rude.
