Manually Download & Install the New DROID X Gingerbread Leak At Your Own Risk

16

Earlier we heard from AndroidForums.com that an OTA upgrade for the DROID X was being trickled out to few select individuals. Later, P3Droid confirmed this and informed everyone that this was a newer Gingerbread build than was previously leaked. And now download links are swirling about for those ballsy enough to apply it.

It’s not going to mess your phone up or anything, but you must SBF to stock Android 2.2 on your DROID to apply this upgrade, and doing that means you lose root with the unfortunate possibility of not being able to get it back if you decide to bite he bullet on upgrading from there.

We’re hopeful the developers will find an exploit for the e but if you don’t plan on giving up root and custom ROMs for this one, you may want to just stay with what you’ve got now. Head on over to DROID X Forums for download links. (Simply flash the update.zip file in recovery.) [via AC]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. So this isnt the big update we’ve been waiting for, and is just a test update?

  2. Well I have been running GB 2.3.3 for about a week now thanx to Team Black Hat. On top of that, im still rooted. I must say that it looks pretty awesome. The new blur is pretty tight if u ask me. Definitely better looking than AOSP Gingerbread

  3. Does this work for druid 2 global?

    1. Druids are notorious for not accepting software updates. usually, to even get to the bootloader of a druid, you have to enchant them with several spells and herbs, all whist getting them away from their pack. but once you have unlocked the bootloader on a druid, it is yours. you can use it anywhere, except in the vile city-states of ATT and T-Mobile (JK about tmobile), as verizon hath decreed them unsanitary for their druids.

  4. What I want to know is what happen to 2.3.3 for the Nexus S, it was going out but me and a friend of mine never got it. Not that it was a big deal but next time I’m doing the manual install.

  5. Will The OTA ever get pushed.

  6. Been running this new leak/update for a few hours and it’s not significantly different from the leak from 2 weeks ago. I’m never going back to Froyo. Gingerbread is the (s)ugar (h)oney (i)ced (t)ea!

  7. Too bad our phandroid developer(s) don’t asnwer emails. Still waiting for a fix to the Phandroid app. I find it very sad.

    1. Oops, sorry, wrong story.

      1. If the app worked liked the old one, this wouldn’t have happened, but I had to go from the app to my desktop to properly comment!

  8. Oops, sorry wrong story (too late at night).

  9. Not so patiently waiting for this to be rooted.

  10. I was using the stock os. downloaded the gingerbread update manually. so far seems to be running great.

  11. What a poorly written article. Tons of typos

    1. Shut up man

  12. just did the manual update. seems to be working so far. only thing that’s frustrating me right now is that I can’t disable ADWlauncher as my home screen replacement to see what the new home screen options are for GB.
