NenaMark has outed yet another phone thanks to testers putting unreleased phones through benchmarks, but what could it be? We know it’s from Sony Ericsson, has an Adreno 205 GPU (which would indicate Qualcomm’s latest 1GHz single-core Snapdragon processor is inside), runs Android 2.3.3 and has a high-resolution display. And we know its name is the Azusa – one such name we haven’t heard before. Is it the Xperia Acro’s codename in Japan? Or is it the codename for the Arc in America or Canada? Or is it an entirely new device? Yea, we don’t know either, but be sure to let us know if you do! [PocketNow]
I seriously hope SE is not considering releasing a “high-end” 1 Ghz phone this summer. They may have learned their lesson regarding software (using latest version), but I don’t think they’ve learned the hardware lesson, too. If they want be a top player like HTC, Samsung, Motorola (and even LG nowadays) they must also have cutting edge phones, not just phones with 1 year old technology, especially if they are going to price them the same as the others price their real high-end devices. At this rate they’ll have dual core phones in 2012.
Perhaps it’s a keyboarded version of the Arc? that would be neat, considering SE’s stance on bootloaders.
“Azusa” is model that Felica, Mobile TV, and Infrared communication function were added to Xperia arc.NTT docomo sells it in the name “Xperia acro SO-02C”.It can unlock SIM lock.
Codename Azusa is Xperia acro for docomo.
Codename Akane is Xperia acro for au.
I think that we are going to start seeing a situation where some of the weaker Android makers may begin to fall apart. Sony seems like one of those “weaker” players at this point. They’ve tried hard to realign themselves by unlocking the bootloader and by indicating that they will continue updating their phones, but it may very well be too little to late.
It’s inevitable with every industry – concentration of existing players. Right now, it looks like HTC, Samsung, Motorola, and LG will dominate in the Western world. I’m not so sure about the Asian markets though and the rest of the world. It’s possible that a Chinese maker like Meizu could grab a substantial market share.
