Pantech’s Mirach A Is Quite The Tasty Android Dish

17

As if Korea didn’t have enough on their plate with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S II, the country will have yet another great Android option available to them courtesy of Pantech. If the manufacturers name sounds familiar that’s because they’ve been around the US for quite some time releasing cheap, cost friendly cell phones for those on a budget. And by cheap I mean, mostly crappy.

Well, that’s all about to change as Pantech showed off the newest addition to their Android line-up in Korea. Its called the Mirach A. Don’t let the phone’s small demeanor or cute looks fool you, the specs on this device are surprisingly… adequate. We’re looking at a 3.5 inch screen, 800Mhz CPU, 512MB of RAM, 432MB internal, 3MP rear camera and get this — a .3MP front facing camera as well. Didn’t see that one coming, huh? And lets not forget a built in theme engine (2 themes shown in the picture) DMB TV Tuner for watching TV on the go, support for both DivX and Xvid and even comes updated with Android 2.3 Gingerbead out of the box. Bravo, Pantech. Bravo.

With most of the budget friendly devices hitting the states these days, most can barely run the obsolete version of Android they ship with (I’m looking at you, Samsung Intercept). Pantech looks to be doing quite well with their latest Android offering. Lets hope these cute little handsets will scurry their way stateside.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  2. Dude Pantech always seems to just miss the mark, but With this right hear I just might smell a smidget (yes I said smidget :D) of total redemption. Great job Pantech!

    1. Haha! Agreed! I was quite pleased. Not too great, but definitely not too bad either.. =)

  3. This is the kind of phone that would be perfect for VM, Cricket or any of the other prepaid services. Does it have a separate GPU I wonder.

  4. I love how ydfgg.com has decided to pass judgment on a phone they’ve never touched while stating that the intercept can’t handle its software. Good journalism.

    1. Perhaps it’s because they’ve used the Intercept and guess it’s hardware specs (from what I’ve seen on GSMArena) is not up to the mark to handle Froyo, and this one up here looks like it just ‘may’.

    2. I was stuck with an Intercept for almost a full month while my Evo was “in the shop.” Might wanna ask before making assumptions, Andy.

Oh, and great comment by the way.

    3. His comment about the Intercept was spot on. had one for a week, and 2-3 minute boot up times, laggy screens, sluggish performance were not acceptable for any phone-even an entry level Android handset. sure I could root it and optimize the performance but I shouldn’t have to.

  6. I wouldn’t say all Pantech phones were bad. I had the Helio Ocean with 3G before the iThing had 3G. The interface on the Ocean was great (I loved Ultimate Inbox) and it was one of the most durable phones I’ve owned.

    1. Oh snap! I remember the Ocean! Totally forgot that was Pantech. That phone rocked in it’s day…

  7. Damb, Chris. You almost reply to everyone’s comment.
