Another build of Gingerbread for the Motorola Droid X on Verizon has leaked, and Verizon has their fingerprints all over it. Rather than simply updating the Droid X experience with the latest version of Android, expect Gingerbread for the Droid X to carry its fair share of bloatware, as well. The latest to be spotted in build 4.5.591 is the VCAST appstore, which Verizon has taken the liberty to simply rename “Apps.” The small change in name has the effect of bumping Big Red’s appstore up to the top of your app drawer.
Still no signs of when the Droid X will officially receive its taste of Android 2.3, but with no build’s leaking almost weekly we figure they are working diligently on it. Should only be a matter of time now.

Just the latest **** that Verizon has taken on the Droid brand. I’m sure I can ignore it by hiding it in Launcher Pro, but after my D2 contract is up, I’m done with it.
Why ignore when you can rip it right out?! Root that b*tch an go to town! Wahooooo! lol
Amazing! The forums are repleat (spelling) of DX’rs screaming ENOUGH with the BLOAT already!! So how does VZW react.. Oh let’s just add some more.. Here ya go.. And we’re gonna give it an indescript generic misleading name too.
I tell ya.. I’m new to the carrier and the cellular signal svc in my area is top-notch, but I really draw the line with that kind of junk. If you could uninstall it.. I’d be fine with it.
Rant over.. Loving my unbloated, not-so-stock DX. Yay!
Thank god for root! :)
Why oh why is City ID still there?
Was expected I suppose. Now hurry the eff up Verizon!
LauncherPro + Freezing apps helps me ignore most of the crapware…. It’s really frustrating being a release behind while getting these “updates:” Ice Cream Sandwich will be the new talk of the town when we (DX’ers) will finally get the Gingerbread update.
I wouldn’t go as far to say “a release behind”. That sounds like everyone else has GB. One phone officially has GB right now, the Nexus S. Every other contemporary phone to the DX and even newer phones still have 2.2. The GB update will be very nice (especially rooted and rom’d) if its anything like the leaks. I will be surprised if the DX gets another OS version beyond 2.3 though.
Correction, two phones on GB, Nexus and Nexus S.
If this is a DroidX why is there a Droid 2 Bootstrap icon on that screen… Hmmm.
in order to boostrap the leaked version you have to use the droid 2 boostrapper.
Because you can only use the d2 bootstrap on dx gingerbread.
And they wonder why people root.
I’ll probably actually remove the bloatware when Gingerbread comes, instead of just freezing it like before. I doubt we’ll get any other updates after 2.3.
B*tch & moan, b*tch moan…. Don’t buy it if ya don’t like it. Root it if it’s that big of a deal. Either way, STFU and move on since we all know Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile will always add their own apps.
Aren’t we having a good day today!!!
Why cant people with Droid X put Cyanogenmod 7 or another rom…oh wait..bootloader is locked. #MotoFAIL
Yep, I won’t be making the mistake of buying an android w/ an encrypted bootloader ever again. :/
I loaded one of the leaked Gingerbreads without all the bloatware on my DX. I was afraid it wouldn’t easily update to the official release. But now I’m afraid that it will. LOL
Even with all the bloat, this GB rocks. I’m enjoying it greatly.
Anyone who frequents these types of blogs/sites and DOESN’T root are only hurting themselves and really aren’t experiencing the full potential their phone is capable of. Waste of time imo…might as well go back to reading the huffingtonpost and whining to your mamma about the price of tea in china.
so profound. Never mind that some people might actually just be reading for, oh I don’t know…information.
You are an idiot.
You wrote “…no build’s [sic] leaking weekly…” Did you mean “new builds?”
I will be dumping my Droid X this summer (not sure for what yet) and probably leaving Verizon when my contract is up next year (not sure for who yet). My (second/replacement) rooted Droid X works fine most of the time, but Motorola as left a very bad taste in my mouth. As for updating to Gingerbread? Only if I can root.
You’ll be able to root. I believe the rooting app that’s floating around right now for these Gingerbread leaks is called Gingerbreak. Seems that the dev is updating it for each sequential release, so I don’t see him having a problem with the official version. :)
I am using a unrooted droid x with the first leaked gingerbread update. Gingerbread does much better job dealing with the bloat and does not seem to slow it down much at all, and if you use auto memory manager app it does even better. so bloat does not really matter to me much although I would remove it if it let me.
Watch out Verizon. Apps is Apple’s word. Get ready for a lawsuit
Hahaha “App Store” is Apple’s “phrase.” You can’t patent a word. Especially one that’s in the dictionary, just shorter. Besides, Apple barely got away with suing Amazon because the name “App Store” is too broad.
Isn’t it always just a matter of time?
I’m glad that Blockbuster is still there, it will help us remember when there was a “Blockbuster”.
Thank God for Titanium Backup’s App Freezing…so long bloatware!
I got the update I love it on mu dx
