Google Voice Gets a Quick Update to Improve Battery Consumption

5

You folks may have noticed an update to Google Voice in the Android market recently. It’s nothing monumental, but it does ease up on your battery a bit. It also adds an option to keep your screen on while listening to/reading voicemail. Not the biggest update, but you can’t get mad at a little improvement. The Android market has the goods you’re looking for so be sure to grab it there.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. the crazy thing is installing the update breaks all of my links… the widget needed to be reinstalled and the short cut I use on my desktop had to be deleted and reinstalled…goofy

  2. what they need to do is turn off Google voice recording your text messages. Thats the most important thing. I do not want google voice saving swaths of text messages i send and recieve. Plus that its messing up the feature i have on another app to hide text messages. Its hiding the texts on the native messaging system on my Evo 4G but still saving and recording for everyone to see on google voice, its a pain in the ass having to delete 2 sets of text messages all the time. Please google stick to voicemail and give the option to turn off storage of text messages..

    1. I’m pretty sure if you delete the texts on your handset they are also deleted from your GV account or there is at least an option for it. That is how it works for me.

I set it up for a friend on her handset too. Same deal.

    2. The whole point of google voice was that it saved ur text messages in u google account. if you didnt want that option then you should’nt have integrated the service. I do know your frustration though. At first I didnt like that it took over the sms functions on the handset but then i got used to it

  3. I most certainly can get mad that the application cannot send Google Voice calls over the Internet yet. Why not? My Obihai box can do it… not my phone…
