CommunicAsia 2011 is underway and Sony Ericsson was on hand to unveil a duo of new Android 2.3-powered smartphones for their Xperia lineup. The Sony Ericsson Xperia ray and Sony Ericsson Xperia active both feature 1GHz processors and compact designs, and continue to show the manufacturer’s dedication to providing “lifestyle” phones suited for nearly every type of person.
The Xperia ray is super slim at 9.4mm and weighs in at a meager 100g. It’s aluminum-framed design houses a 3.3-inch Reality display powered by the Bravia engine. The 8.1MP Exmor R camera sensor is capable of video capture at up to 720p HD resolution. It’s a phone aimed at those looking for something small, stylish, and powerful, and will be available in black, gold, white, or pink when it launches globally in Q3 of this year.
The Xperia active, as its name implies, is designed for those with active lifestyles. It sports a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 5MP camera, and 3.0-inch Reality display powered by the Bravia engine. The phone is dust-proof and scratch and water-resistant. The latter is coupled with “wet finger tracking” technology, which allows the use of the touchscreen even when fingers are wet. ANT+ technology enables the use of pre-loaded app such as an on-screen heart rate and pulse monitor. The Xperia active will also be available in Q3.
SE also announced expanded Xperia Play availability, and two new audio accessories, LiveDock and LiveSound. LiveDock is what it says it is, an audio docking station for your Xperia phone. LiveSound is a bit more interesting — a tangle free set of earphones featuring a “LiveKey” for remote control of certain Android functions.

Not my kind of phones but this is why i Love SE because they come
out with some of the most interesting android devices.
Lol I’m gonna have to say ur cute anyways Sony is stepping up their Android game
That second phone looks like Apple lawsuit bait.
It’s about time Sony enters the midrange Android game.
I don’t know if the market segment for “people using their phone with wet fingers” is one that’s particularly lucrative.
In countries like the UAE where it can get stupidly humid outdoors, especially at night, I think it’ll work nicely.
I didn’t think of that! Thanks for putting me straight!
also if you work out while listening to music on your phone it can get difficult to use your phone
Even on a hot day coaching when my fingers are a bit sweaty, I’ve have problems with my droid X’s touchpad…very neat idea
wet fingers display is a good idea. quite often at work the screen on my phone becomes unresponsive because of my sweaty hands lol. also nice to see some “mid range” phones at a decent size. i like the look of the Xperia Ray a lot. lets hope it also has a Mid Range price tag
Ray in gold. Gotta get that for my wife.
I run a car wash/detail shop, this would be priceless.
Can some body tell me the price of Xperia Active please !!
