Well, our good friends over at AndroidPolice discovered today that the web version of the Android Market has slightly upgraded their ratings system to show a nifty little breakdown chart of an app’s ratings by star (not unlike Amazon.com). Still missing is a view of comments based on star rating but maybe they’ll add that at a later time. So jump on the Android Market from your web browser to check it out!

I know it’s baby steps, but damn, I wish some of these changes would make it to the marketplace app. That needs a major overhaul.

I don’t have that many years left before demensia sets in, they need to shake a leg so I can enjoy it before I forget how to use it. And yes I meant the phone.
actually to code an ability of a rating system, together with some javascript mockups (say jquery fantastic plugins/UI system) to filter comments dependant on ratings…well, it takes, let me count, 3 lines of code in C#? (provided you have proper DB backend/schemas/ORMs set)

I haven’t researched which web technology they are using (certainly not asp.net) but this is really funny, a company that became famous mainly due to web fame (and search engine) completely lacks any sanity in web presentation (I would anderstand their java/dalvik android market amateurism as this is a new field, but web?!?)
I started to think that there is 1 guy … sitting in the corner … at the Google Android HQ … coding all these Android things.
*Sigh* … why cant Google hire more devs? I know, probably more devs cannot speed up things … but I don’t know what more!
yes or have embedded links on the Market App itself so we could take a more detailed look. I don’t think anyone (around me) bothers to look at the web version of market on their Androids, including myself…
pointless. They should use their time and resources on actual APP!
well..open it on your computer then =) its automatically installed on your phone right? if your phone has an active connection. i know it might take longer, but for important apps i think its necessary to do a research first, and its better done on computers. that’s what i think..
Lol I just checked the app I’ve been working on and it shows 7 five stars, 1 three stars, and 1 one stars. Yet it shows 8 ratings. 7+1+1=8? o.O

If you haven’t checked out videos of the Nokia n9 (and it’s supreme utlra inspiring openness – developer mode and access to the bootloader is accessable to every user straight from settings) Then you should check out some videos. It’s a dead end for Nokia at least, but man man man is it a beautiful dead end.
I think the count may include spam comments that have been reported, or possibly how many comments (you can rate via star and not leave any textual comment; you can’t text comment and not leave a star.)

The App Market on phones is terrible. Please fix this Google. Knowing Google they won’t for a long time because theyre focused on other stupid beta products their users dont need at the moment.
I guess this update is why i have no phone associated with the web market. I really wish Google could update the market without breaking it.
I noticed the same error last night. Been trying different fixes and none of them work.
Market ‘fixes’ are usually nothing more that vodoo or tribal magic. I think almost all market problems are server side and nothing you do can affect the issue at all.
While Apple sells products to its customers google sells its customers to products. Android dorks are like religious zealots who resort to logical fallacies to prove their religion is better. IOS is a much more mature
and stable platform than Android and therefore does everything better than any Android phone. And most loosers buy an Android just because it is cheaper and no other reason. Besides isn’t Andriod just an illegal piracy of Linux and Java and Iphone UI? People who really care about open source should hate Android just for the reason that it steals credit from Linux and Java communities.
Google fans make no mention of the fact that it remotely reads users mail and serves up ads that are correlated to the content.
Like that? I don’t. But then as Google’s Eric Schmidt put it, if you have
nothing to hide, why are you averse to having your personal files read by all
and sundry? Had someone asked Schmidt if he was willing to sleep with his
partner in public, he probably would have backed down – but then the Google
faithful only stand in awe when such pronouncements are made. For them, Google can do no wrong. Even when it sends Google Street cars to steal personal information from unsuspecting wifi users. Google has criminal charges filed against it for this.
Actually the only people who love Andriod are those who love to steal music and applications and find it difficult to do that on IOS and therefore complain
that it is a closed platform. Apple promotes innovation and rewards its
innovative developers, who have made billions while Andriod developers make
next to nothing.

Uh, how about for years the iPhone was only available on one carrier? And not everyone can afford it and its expensive At&t plans.

I am not a big fan of Amazon’s app store, but they have had this feature in their market phone app since the beginning.
Something I can see it needs. A better search with options like newest first, or search title only. It would save a lot of time looking for apps.

Like I said one year ago…
1) an update is NOT a new app! Add a tab for recently updated apps but please pull them out from the new apps!
2) knowing the frequency of updates for an app could help
3) the search engine got better but still sucks, which is even worse thinkin this is Google core business.
4) all this stuff should hit also the mobile app.
