Touch screens? That’s sooooo 2011. In the future, we can launch apps simply by making a few silly hand gestures. Well, that might be the future Qualcomm has in mind thanks to some new gesture related IP’s the company recently acquired from GestureTek. Steve Mollenkopf executive vice president of group president of Qualcomm announced via press release:
“Applications processors are enabling a range of new ways for consumers to interface with their home entertainment and mobile devices. Our acquisition of key technology and assets from GestureTek will strengthen Qualcomm’s smartphone product portfolio and enable our customers to launch products with new and compelling user experiences.”
With all the mobile processor competition going around these days, Qualcomm may be trying to get an early leg-up on the competition with some gesture enabled Snapdragon chips. The new gesture recognition tech will by integrated into Qualcomm’s current and next-gen Snapdragon processors. Looks like someone took Google’s Gmail Motion idea and ran with it.

I wonder how this will work…do I wave my hand in front of the screen?
The only place I could see that being useful is for switching home screens or switching between internet/conversation tabs
So anyone know how else this could be used to? I am sure it has much more potential than what I just named.
Gah dang son I thought I was watching a Chappelle Show skit, but he never came out. Seriously, the guy performing the gestures is just effin hilarious.
iPad 2 64GB for $22.87 eh? Totally believable! And I totally didn’t flag your comment!
By the way, if you’re spamming an android website, use android tablets for make-believe examples. And if you are going to mention your “girlfriend” for no reason, don’t use “Selena” as your handle.
Trolls these days… they just don’t even try anymore…
Reminds me of Microsofts original plans for Windows Mobile 7, when it still looked a lot like Windows Mobile 5 and 6. They had all kinds of ideas for gestures using the camera and accelerometer.
Umm… I’m pretty sure that was one of Google’s April Fools Day pranks from a few years back. That would explain the squat writing “Sincerely, Bob Harland”
(And the fact that the link no longer exists)
