Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Now Receiving Android 2.3.4 – Adds 720p HD Recording

8

Good news for Sony Ericsson Xperia Play users! Can’t say I’ve ever seen this happen before but Xperia Play users are reportedly getting a little more than they expected with Sony Ericsson’s latest Android 2.3.4 update. Apparently, SE has done them a solid and upped their video recording capabilities of the Xplay from standard definition to 720p with continuous autofocus. Nice. Could never figure out why this wasn’t in there originally but now it feels like the Xperia Play is actually evolving. If you haven’t gotten it yet, the update should be hitting you sometime very soon. In the meantime, check out this video of the goods in action.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Actually this has happened before. I know the original Incredible (and I think the original EVO) got 720p video recording with an update. The Inc’s came with Froyo along with unlocking wifi n.

    1. I know the Evo always had 720p recording.. Incredible? Really? :O

      1. We were hoping for 720p and wifi-n at launch. The guys who got ahold of them a week before launch said they were capable, but they weren’t unlocked until the Froyo update.

I think you’re right about the EVO now. I seem to recall that Inc1 owners were wondering why their’s didn’t have it since the internals for both were almost the same (camera & wifi radio anyway).

  2. Does it fix Facebook Sync?

  3. Ha first!

  4. Give me a break every phone is getting 2.3 but once again Samsung charge is still on 2.2… Beginning to think they do it on purpose

  5. BTW, I upped an example of the autofocus, shows it off well. It works pretty good actually :-)
