“Exclusively From Verizon” Tag Now Gone from Galaxy Nexus Search Banner

68

Sometime last night, it was revealed that Verizon was advertising the Galaxy Nexus as an exclusive product of theirs. When searching for any Samsung phone on their site, a Galaxy Nexus “Learn More” banner appears above the results. Yesterday, “Exclusively from Verizon” was spotted in the upper left corner. Today, it is gone.

So the question is – did Google ask them to remove that tag? We know Verizon is likely the only timed exclusive carrier here in the states so that’s why Verizon used the tag in the first place (the device has already been confirmed for other carriers worldwide).

Everyone was worried no other carrier would be getting the device here in the states, but that is highly unlikely. So is it really exclusive to them? Yes… for now. Mounting evidence suggests Sprint and others will also get in on the Galaxy Nexus gravy train. Don’t worry too much about it, folks. [Thanks Mitchel!]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  2. I have a headache..

    1. Me too because I have been searching frantically for a damn release date. :(

      1. Ive seen few sites saying its coming out on the 3rd

  3. Thanks for the update :)

  4. sweet.

  5. Quentyn, dont f- with me bro. I want that phone ASAP. my Epic 4g is losing value!

  6. No problem =D

  7. Hurry up at&t and get this so I can upgrade my Thrill that you hesitate to put gingerbread on.

  8. It was probably taken down because “Exclusively from Verizon” could mislead people to believe that only big red will carry the device, causing them to change carriers just for the Nexus. Then they get pissed when other carriers start carrying it and sue for false advertisement. Which Verizon would happily say that Google told them it would be exclusive, for a limited time, so it’s Google’s fault you bought it from us. Then they would proceed to sue Google. And now everyone’s sue crazy.

    1. That’s a stupid scenario.

Cause I can see it happening =

  9. well if it’s 90 day exclusive, there will be far better and more powerful devices on the horizon. Easy choice for me now, PASS!

    1. Congratulations, you figured out how technology works. Now give me my Nexus!!!!

      1. I’ve known all along, what I didn’t know what how stupid Google would have been in handling this release. Completely botched and unorganized and goes completely against the “Nexus” ethos.

        1. Unless it was your carrier that was getting the exclusive release…

  10. What a f’ed up release. How hard is it to announce the phone and release dates/carriers at the same time? Seriously…

    1. No kidding… Google/Samsung completely FUBAR’ed the announcement/release.

Please Google, sit your marketing team down and watch/learn (on your own youtube) how Apple does its announcements! You have superior products, just that Apple simply outdoes you in marketing.

    2. To be honest, with all the logistics and paper work and everything else that goes into this kind of stuff, it would be quite difficult.

  11. I guess everyone needed 2 and 2 to be put together.

  12. To be honest…a DUMB move on google’s part. All major U.S. carriers should get it at the same time.

    1. I’m sure 3 will.

    2. They did the same thing with the previous two Nexus generations. It was stupid then, and it is stupid now, but it is what it is. Just have to accept it. The other US providers will get it when they get it.

      1. The carriers did it, not Google.

        1. My point was that it happened. It’ll happen now and most likely will again going forward with newer editions. People really shouldn’t act so surprised.

          1. True until the carriers get their heads out of their money grubbing asses.

          2. I wish, but these big corps don’t give a flying shit about their customers.

        2. Google has to sell the carriers. I blame Google. I can understand how stock Éclair and Gingerbread didn’t have the carriers sold… but not Ice Cream Sandwich. Stock Android is finally polished and ready to take off. This time it seems to be Google’s fault if they in fact allowed Verizon this BS exclusivity. The Galaxy Nexus should be competing head to head with the iPhone4s release.

          1. I don’t know how many times I have to post but it isn’t any different from the Nexus One and Nexus S launch. Both phones weren’t carrier exclusive and T-mo and Google never claimed that they were so there will still be a unlocked GSM version like always.
Also “carrier exclusive” means that it will be sold in stores like the Nexus S 4G is but I wouldn’t buy it if it was because then the carrier can take off free tethering like Sprint did.

Google tried to sell the Nexus phones to customers but it’s the carriers that want more control, just look at all the bloatware they install in their other Android phones and with the Nexus Google ain’t having none of that bull.

          2. I never said it was exclusive. My point is that Google needs to market the Nexus series better. Google couldn’t sell the Nexus One over the EVO 4G and Droid Incredible. I blame that on the lack-luster vanilla versions of Éclair and Gingerbread. Yes carriers want control, but just look at how successful the iPhone has been. I don’t agree with the Nexus S being sold as a timed release on Best Buy, T-Mobile and Sprint. Just because the approach is similar doesn’t mean it’s the right approach. Google needs to push the Galaxy Nexus on all four major US carriers as a simultaneous release. Truth be told, there’s already a version that will run on both T-Mobile and AT&T’s networks. So what’s the hold up? We know T-Mobile and Sprint want the phone. They’ve sold previous Nexus versions in their stores. Why make this exclusive to Verizon? It’s senseless.
I have no use for tethering, but I do have use for a subsidized phone. Are you telling me it’s acceptable to force customers to buy the Galaxy Nexus off Amazon for nearly $800? Not I buddy. Not going to happen.

          3. *Never said the Nexus One and Nexus S were carrier exclusive.

        3. Oh really now? Do you honestly think that any of the carriers would pass up something like this phone? No. They weren’t given the offer even.

          1. You are telling me that the carriers would want a phone where they couldn’t install their bloatware to promote their company and let their users tether for free and lose $30/month per customer……

            What was I thinking.

          2. Yes it’s called the iPhone 4 & 4S. Galaxy Nexus is hot too.

          3. @jmaxku I know and that is why I only really like 3 phones, the iPhone, Nexus, WP7. I have been using Android because it is the little things that always keep me from going any where and the fact that tethering does come in very very handy at times like when our internet goes down at work or at home.

    3. If all the US carriers had ‘real’ networks, they’d probably be getting it at the same time.

  13. just bring it at&t already!

  14. hope this phone doesn’t sell out as quick as the razr did.

  15. Why couldn’t google just announce a actual release date instead of saying sometime in november? the speculation wouldn’t be as much it and we’d all be like just way for said date. This was just stupid how google announced the phone with no carriers and no definite release date. The event in hong kong was huge waste to just reveal a OS and its device with out a day.

    1. Because Google has no say. Verizon has the final word.

      1. For the Verizon one but there is also a HSPA+ version.

      2. What crack pipe are you smoking?

      3. ha! cold day in hell. ; P

    2. Because Google makes an operating system. It is up to handset manufacturers to complete finished handset models and work out marketing deals with the carriers. The carriers take on certain advertising costs and agree to buy a certain number of units in exchange for periods of exclusivity.

    3. You are expecting Google to handle a major OS update with any common sense?
I mean CRAZY how Microsoft and Apple can seem to get this shit right.

  16. I’m switching from VZW to either AT&T or T-Mo so I’ll take this as a sign I’m doing the right thing.

  17. I’m still torn when it comes to the decision of getting the RAZR or the Nexus. It boils down to ICS vs Hardware. I mean you never know when Kevlar may come in handy!

    1. After three awesome years of Android I have learned that it is always about the software on Android, just look at how the Nexus S with it’s March 2010 Hummingbird chip is faster than every dual core except the GS2.

      1. Haaaaah. You’re a funny man.

        1. I can’t alter the truth I can only repeat it.

    1. You already said that. Why are you so eager for somebody to come on Tmobile?

      1. LOLOLOL so wrong.

  18. Funny how people panic, worried and angry about the possible exclusivity release of next GN… Relax people it’s not even out yet… do your self a favor stop whining like a b1tch and see what happen! Money talks and Google have the right to keep the phone exclusive or not for the right price ..just saying

    1. You do realize is the holiday season and the biggest selling time for phones right?
Of course Google can do what they want if the price is right.
I suppose that is a good business model if you dont want to sell a lot of phones during the peak time of the year.
I can see your point now.
If I were you I would see if Google would hire you as a business consultant ASAP!

  19. this is good news though, eventually t mobile and att will get it…i couldnt wait and was able to pre-order an unlocked galaxy nexus via ebay, im with t mobile so im using a loaner phone til then…i want some ice cream sandwich already!!

  20. …the wait is killin me!

  21. Dont forget Verizon’s run with the Xoom and its 4G LTE upgrade. They can be masters of words when it comes to advertising.

  22. Not that it matters because I think this phone is over hyped, but to everyone, VZW customers deserve a decent choice for an exclusive after everyone else has been getting good phones for months..

    1. Verizon decides what phones they sell. Why do others have to suffer, because “Verizon customers have remained unhappy”? Two negatives don’t make a positive. I want every carrier to have this phone, and so should you.

      1. -2 * -2 = +4. Fact.

  23. but Sprint screwed me out of my upgrade!

    1. i take that back. my error – i just checked and still have it. Sprint is awesome! now please get the Galaxy Nexus asap!

  24. what is the “mounting evidence” that Sprint will get this phone besides the ‘nexus prime’ poster order form? those words ring hollow since you haven’t supported that statement with any facts.

  25. Please come to Sprint!!

  26. I happened to see the same articles going up, but don’t worry about it carriers will be announced VERYYYY soon ;)

  27. cmon…. I need to preorder before the end of the month for my company to pay for it…. HURRY UP!!!!

  28. i couldnt wait for it to come to t mobile, i preordered mine via ebay below is a link, wooo wooo i cant wait for ICS..thank me later http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-Prime-Unlocked-32GB-GSM-HSPA-Android-4-0-ICS-/320783310497?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item4ab02cdea1#ht_500wt_1287
