Some evidence has cropped up showing that the Samsung DROID Charge, Verizon’s first Samsung LTE phone, will be getting an upgrade to Android 2.3 this Tuesday, November 29th. Alongside the gingery features we know Gingerbread brings, we’re also expected to see the following changes, improvements and additions:
- Updated Download Manager app – from where you can manage all of your downloads from web browsing, email attachments and other apps.
- Improved word selection and Copy/Paste functionality.
- New widgets, icons and screens with refreshed colors.
- Added device and SD card encryption; VPN enhancements integrate IPSec VPN clients into device security settings.
- Updated Calendar options – ability to display event times in your home time zone when traveling; Dismiss individual reminders.
- Pause, Wait and Password have been added into the voicemail speed dial entry for manual entry/storage.
- Increased intensity of the vibration alert.
- Added Software Upgrade Assistant (SUA).
- Reduced volume of the Low Battery Notification sound has been reduced.
If all this is really set to go down (this is a rumor and even if it has some credibility to it, anything can change) you’re in store for a nice treat. That’s unless you were expecting Honeycomb, in which case I’d say don’t hold your breath. [via]
Haha I just have to say that it doesn’t need a more intense vibration alert. It actually scares the people I work with when I just leave it on the table and it goes off.
Well you must work with a bunch of pussies. All phones vibrate the same when on desk…..
Not true.
Honeycomb or ics?
Don’t get your hopes up. The mod community can’t even do it since Samsung has yet to release all of the source code for the device (something to do with the 4G radio I think)
I don’t see anything about this GB update that is exciting. Froyo was exciting because it brought apps2sd but GB doesn’t bring anything outstanding.
from what i understand, 2.3 will bring a notable speed increase. and just to back it up…

Good ol’ Samsung with their timely updates… its like finally upgrading to windows vista when 7 comes out. Though if that’s the case my wife’s phone is still on ME even though she bought it this year. Lame.
Gingerbread brings native video chat to Android. Skype actually works as intended on Gingerbread.
I find it a shame that the google talk app wasn’t updated for video chat through, but if you root, there are ways around that.
I would say this is unbelievably slow. But this is samsung. Any one that’s gets to step back and see how slow samsung is at updating is lucky, makes is know to stay away till sammy learns.
Just spoke on the phone with tier 3 tech support and 2 floor managers from Verizon. Not a single one mentioned any update release nor that they believed it would come anytime soon. “It may be tomorrow or 6 months from now sir. Samsung has to release the update and we are waiting on them”
That was echoed over and over again with each person I spoke to. Scripted? Possibly. But it none the less offers me no hope of seeing an update come to this phone any time soon.
I can only wish that they were just ill informed employees and that this update is still taking place today.
Def need speed increase. This is my second Charge and there is tooo much lag. If no speed increase the Nexus will be sure to get my $!
