All of our fellow Indian Android Phandroids can now get a hold of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. This tablet has just been introduced to the country as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 680. And it features all the good specs, with a pricetag of 33,600 INR (about $678 US dollars).
This tablet features Android 3.x Honeycomb (will get Android 4.0), a 7.7-inch 1280x800p AMOLED Plus display, a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, WiFi/Bluetooth 3.0, a 3.2 MP rear-facing camera and a 2 MP front-facing shooter. All of this packed in a thin 7.9 mm body, making it the thinnest Samsung tablet around.

Geeze, that’s expensive. Is the conversion price from india a good estimate for US price? If so, most people value smaller tablets less, and almost $700 prices this out of range for most.
A very high end, droolworthy device, but most people will want an iPad at $200 less or Tab 8.9 at $300 less, or a Kindle Fire at almost $500 less.
Hey eric, no the conversion price from India is nowhere close to being a close estimate for the US price. I’m not exactly sure what the cause is (possibly higher import prices here or maybe something else) but gadgets tend to cost a significant lot more here.
I’d be surprised if the 7.7 costs more than $500 in the US. Samsung had acknowledged the pricing issue before most manufacturers last year itself, when it made sure it got the 10.1 down to $500 starting to place it against the iPad 2 as soon as Apple announced it.
$678 US dollars for an Indian is like $678,000 to an American. why are they selling such an expensive tablet in India–and before its available here in the US?
You might wanna change the perception about India. I’ll be the first to admit that it’s too costly to garner significant market-share over here. But the price of Rs 33.6 K puts it in line with their flagship phones which have been popular. For example, the Galaxy Note has a very similar retail price, and I’ve seen quite a few people with it over here.
As to why is it available here before the US, it tends to be because even tablets there are released alongside some carrier partnership, which causes significant delays. Plus, India has for quite some time been a major market for Samsung, and it is by far the Android manufacturer of choice for most people.
The issue, though, lies with the fact that most people aren’t ready to spend a large amount on a tablet at all. And those who do unfortunately fall into the iPad bandwagon, but thats their choice. What Android really needs over here is the entry of Asus into the market, especially with their upcoming 7 inch $250 tablet. At probably a cost of INR 16,000, I’m very confident it’ll do an exceptional job.
I paid $530 on Ebay for this and I LOVE it!! Got it from a Hong Kong market, probably (okay definitely) “grey market” but it works great. The cost is some what justified with the unbelievable Super AmoLED + screen….
I sold my prime to buy the 7.7 from Negri. Yes, I over paid, but I FINALLY have a great Android tablet after trying most of the others.
I’m so excited about this new tablet, I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
