By The Transformer Prime may have been the most powerful tablet on the market for a bit, but it has a younger, strong brother coming to take over the task of protecting the family. We got our hands on the ASUS Trasnformer Pad Infinity (700 series). The device will be positioned above the Transformer Prime and it’s for some very good reasons.
To start, the 10.1 inch Super IPS+ display has 600 nits of brightness and will by a Full HD display (1920×1200). It’ll house 1GB of RAM, 32-64GB of internal storage with expansion options and will have an 8 megapixel rear camera which can shoot HD video.
The front camera has gotten a slight upgrade from the Transformer Prime, as well – it has a 2 megapixel sensor over the latter’s 1.3 megapixel sensor. It’s extremely thin for a tablet, as well, with its 8.5mm brushed metal chassis.
Unfortunately, we’re not so sure what’s going on with its processor. ASUS is touting that it will either have NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor.
You’ll be getting NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 monster if you opt for the WiFi version, Qualcomm’s dual-core MSM8260A S4 Snapdragon processor if you want 3G, and Qualcomm’s dual-core MSM8960 s4 Snapdragon processor if you’re getting an LTE version.
It’s unfortunate that the processor make and model are inconsistent between the different models. We’d undoubtedly opt for NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 on all three models but I guess ASUS has its reasons. Find the video hands-on embedded above.

So is this the updated Transformer Prime From CES, the TF700T? Are they one and the same?
Probably one and the same. They consolidated their product branding at MWC and probably redesigned the back of the TF700T to include the spun metal back of the original TFP but with the addition of the plastic area for antennas. Just the natural evolution of a product from conception, prototyping, testing, to shipping product.
I asked ASUS directly on facebook if this was the next generation of Tegra 3 processor and provided 32 x 2 memory channel like the S4 dual core allows. They deleted the question and didn’t answer it. So I will be waiting and deciding what tablet to get till I find out that information.

I have heard that the snapdragon processor was better then the Tegra 3 processor
Ditto, in most benchies (excepting battery as not properly testable yet).
Uber specs are great and all but they really only appeal to power users like most of us in this forum. If they want this product to really succeed they have to appeal to the masses. The masses won’t care about specs. They know nothing about specs. In fact most of them just make up specs. Thats why so many iphone users think their iphone 4 is 4G.
If ASUS and all the others want to learn from their past and build a viable mass consumer product they need to stop obsessing over specs. They have to have:
– smooth day 1 delivery
– minimal updates to quirks (they must be ironed out before product roll out). If you tell an average consumer “oh don’t worry there will be a quick update to fix that” you’ve already lost that customer and they will never return.
– aesthetics. like it or not it sells
– Market the heck out of it.
this is what apple does better than anyone else. They market to the brain dead and technology helpless and its paying off big time. If you cater mainly to power users you will be a niche product because we are a small population.
I think I’ll wait til this arrives in stores, and then buy the TF200…assuming that there’s a significant enough price different. Either that or stick with the wifi version of the TF700. No way am I paying monthly fees for LTE!!
The current tegra 3 doesn’t support lte. That’s why asus is using different processors.
