Last night at MobileFocus — a side event to Mobile World Congress here in Barcelona — we had a chance to check out some new features headed to Quickoffice in the near future. Listening to user feedback, three key features were added to make editing documents in the cloud easier then ever: spellcheck, enhanced table editing, and PDF annotation. The update isn’t due until April, but from the looks of it these features are polished enough that they could roll out tomorrow. Spellcheck worked well, a godsend for those of us guilty of a typo now and then (and I’ll admit I am). Table resizing has a new UI and works well on a tablet, though it will be interesting to see the feature on a smartphone with a smaller display.
PDF annotations are perhaps the biggest addition, giving users access to a full suite of tools for marking up documents and adding notes. All additions are saved back into PDF format for viewing on any platform. The demo we saw was being shown off on a Samsung tablet, and it has us thinking the new features would work great with the S Pen stylus of the Galaxy Note and the newly announced Galaxy Note 10.1.
The updates aren’t anything earth shattering, but they are some great tools that make Quickoffice’s suite of mobile document editing software all the more useful. We’ll be sure to let you know when the new version is up in the Android Market for download.
