Summer is just around the corner and for an Android user stuck in the woods, finding a reliable power source could provide for a near impossible challenge. Up until now, we’ve seen more conventional methods of keeping your devices juiced up when away from an outlet like using solar power. And while solar power isn’t always the most efficient way of charging a device — not to mention having to rely on the not always reliable sun and low power output — this Kickstarter campaign provide a little more useful.
If you’re one of the more outdoorsy Android users, The PowerPot is an easy way to power your all your Android devices using nothing more than heat. Start a fire, put on a PowerPot, plug in your device and you’re all set to go. It’s that simple. You can find The PowerPot on its Kickstarter page where the creators have currently raised $18,000 of their $50,000 goal with 24 days left to go before funding expires. You guys can check it out via the video and link below.

How to avoid cable melt?
The only thing I paid attention to is that he’s using an OG Droid in the photo. OG Droid represent!
Ok, now I’ve actually read the article. This seems like some pretty cool stuff. But I’ve gotta say, if you’re doing serious camping, you shouldn’t be worried about your phone being charged.
GPS?
True! I can see GPS, but you should be enjoying the outdoors, and leave the phone OFF. :D
Sometimes you wanna take panoramic shots, video of grizzly bears AND GPS though… =p
then you have an accident or some emergency and need to make a phone call and your phones dead so your screwed….
Bring an extra battery! I purchased two extra batteries for my thunderbolt for less than $20. When you turn off the data on your phone, you can use apps like google tracks all day long without running out the battery – even on a device made by HTC! I have used my phone continuously one three day back-packers without issue.
Not nearly as cool as the BioLite camping stove. For one, you’d still have to start a fire from scratch on your own with this. The BioLite makes that tedious task so much easier, plus you still get the benefits of generating electricity from it.
The Biolite looks to be a much better idea.
The Power pot while a good idea, is just the pot so you would still need to create a fire and then put the pot on the fire and fill the pot. The Biolite is itself a stove so all you got to do is make the fire and don’t have to actually cook or boil anything at all. I like that. Thanks for posting.
There’s a lot of us who camp that already have propane stoves we’re used to carrying, swapping the PowerPot out for our existing aluminum pot is trivial and a good idea. I’ll boil about three liters of water a day for cooking when I’m on the trail.
I also bring my phone for emergencies, weather, GPS, music and ebooks. Rather bring the PowerPot than lugging around an extra/external battery and/or hand crank charger to keep it fed.
Ummm… My cellphone doesn’t get reception at the places I camp. So why the need to leave it on?
Games, GPS and/or pics and video?
My phone works almost everywhere I camp and I use it mainly for taking photos. (which as we all know use the battery up quick) I have 2 spare batteries but this is a great idea and one I’ll definitely look into purchasing.
