LG Optimus LTE gets renamed as Optimus True HD LTE

14

A device name change is usually due to two reasons. Either it is getting something extra, or it is done for marketing reasons. The LG Optimus LTE has already reached major countries (Spectrum and Nitro in the US), but the South Korean found a good way to hit Samsung by changing the device’s name.

The device will now be named as the LG Optimus True HD LTE. But what exactly does this mean? One would expect the device to have a higher resolution. Maybe even a 1080p resolution, which is considered “real HD” by many. But customers will find that this smartphone also has a 720p display.

The trick here is that this is a way for LG to throw a punch at Samsung. LG believes that Samsung’s HD smartphone displays are not “real HD” due to the fact that they use pentile screens (like the Galaxy Nexus). These are in fact 1280x720p displays, but have less sub-pixels.

Furthermore, LG also believes that color saturation and energy efficiency make Samsung’s displays inferior. But such is simply a matter of opinion. Personally, the true blacks and vibrant hues are very enticing. Even if the colors are not seen as “natural.”

Regardless, LG believes that their IPS displays are much better, and considered “True HD.” And from now on, users will be reminded of such every time they read the name of the device. What do you guys say? Do you prefer HD Super AMOLED or HD IPS displays?

  1. i really dont focus too much on what kind of screen my device has. As longs as i dont see the pixils unless im looking for them and i like the colors im good. I love the display on my gnex.

    1. I am with you on this one…. I love my Galaxy Nexus’ display. And I don’t see the saturated colors as an issue….

  2. They are going to feel stupid when the GSIII is true RGB stripe.

  3. Amoled all day any day

    1. burn in much

  4. Sorry LG, but “True HD” implies 1080p, not 720p.

  5. Samsung should respond by renaming their screens to “True Not Having the Backlight Obnoxiously Bleeding Through.”

While they’re at it, they can also rename their phones to “True Not Locking Up And Forcing You To Open the Case And Pull the Battery Twice a Day.”

Sorry LG, I learned my lesson from the G2x. Never again.

    1. Hold the power button for lyk 5+ seconds does the same as a battery pull. It’ll save you the trouble of taking the case off. I understand your pain there.

      1. Oh, trust me, holding down the power button does exactly nothing when the G2x locks up. The thing is a complete virtuoso at locking up so hard that nothing works but a battery pull.

  6. Samsung is still better, no matter how Lg puts it, they will never beat Samsung

  7. LG is learning marketing from crapple

  8. Samsung should fire back with the galaxy s 3 or another model and call it full HD, it will be 1080p. But in all seriousness, LG just wants more enticing marketing. I bought the spectrum for my dad, but the software was too confusing for him apparently and it happened to freeze up a couple times. The display may have been somewhat gorgeous, but he liked the brighter colors of the RAZR better. Nexus was out of question because of its signal issues inside our house.

  9. anyone at lg ever heard of super amoled plus??? that uses the RGB over the pentile and it’s on all SGSII models, along with the droid charge and the infuse.

  10. I’m more curious why there using an iPhone as their example, are they the manufacturers for the 4S screen?
