THIS Is How You Play Fruit Ninja On The Galaxy S3 – Using A Real Knife [Video]

28

This video definitely isn’t for the squeamish. It hasn’t been talked about too much, but the Samsung Galaxy S3 actually features a fortified glass, better known as Gorilla Glass 2 (part deux). The sequel to last year’s Gorilla Glass, GG2 is actually just as tough as the original, while reducing thickness of the glass by 20%.

I guess the guy in this video decided to put manufacturer Corning’s claims to the test, playing Fruit Ninja (“like a boss”) while using a real honest-to-goodness knife as a capacitive stylus, slashing up fruit, and the Galaxy S3 display, in the process. Warning: extremely graphic content ahead. I think I’m going to be sick…

  1. uh… I think I’ll just use my fingers… can’t wait till 7/10… (preordered pebble blue)

    1. My AT&T pebble blue is arriving tomorrow :-)

  2. Video not working in s3

  3. We took a diamond tipped bur to my friends galaxy s 2. It showed surprisingly little scratches, though it doesn’t protect well against drilling straight through. I can’t wait till the new phone gets the test.

      1. I’d really like to see more drop tests done WITH CASES on rather than naked. Otterbox VS TPU, etc…

        1. anytime you put any kind of skin on a phone, it dramatically enhances its chances of survival. Otterbox would probably be the best because it has an exo-skeleton on top of the rubber base.

  4. This guy is using the dull end of the knife. If you look at the shape, the longest side is the sharp side.

    1. I wouldn’t do that to my phone with the dull side either! What the hell is wrong with these people? X<

      1. That’s their attempt at 15 seconds of fame. Remember the guy back in 2010 that was the first one to destroy an iPad? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGUppxoJUVg

      2. They’re sadists O_o

    2. Look again… He is using the sharp side.

  5. Hah… this video is not cringe-worthy at all. He just gingerly scrapes across.

If you want to cringe in horror, check out the youtube video of a guy using his HTC One X as hammer against a thin framing nail — screen-side down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2NYtgWYefQ

    1. I think most phones can deflect direct force, but not side force. usually when people drop their phone on a corner, it is most likely to break.

    2. Oh yeah! We posted that awhile ago….. here: http://ydfgg.com/2012/05/31/dont-try-this-at-home-crazy-russians-use-htc-one-x-as-a-hammer/

That was like watching someone using a baby’s head to pound in a nail >_<

  6. What a cutting edge video.

    1. you have a sharp wit sir

  7. Someone should hang a phone with gorilla glass 2 and use a real samurai sword to play fruit ninja. Better yet put gorilla glass on a 50″ LCD screen TV and use a real samurai sword to play fruit ninja (I’ve seen fruit ninja in arcades on a 50″ LCD Screens).

  8. nothing compared to the HTC One X hammer!!!

  9. Dont believe the hype about this gorilla glass! Its bullshit. My girlfriend’s RAZR screen cracked last week for no apparent reason. Wasnt dropped at all. Screen popped while she was talking on the phone with me. Verizon brushed it off and said no dice, call assurion not a manufactures defect. Yet reading the reviews after the fact there are numbers of people having the same or similar problems with the “indestructible” glass.

  10. …How is a knife capacative?

    1. Apparently metal objects work on capacitive displays. I didn’t believe it either, but I just tried my pocket knife on my N1 and sure enough it worked. Not well, but it worked.

    2. because they conduct, that’s how they work isn’t it?

  11. this guy is nuts

  12. Look again at the knife when he shows it before starting – he’s using the rounded back edge of it, not the point or blade. The back edge is thicker and flattened, besides being curved at the point where he’s touching the screen, so this isn’t nearly as potentially damaging as it was made out to be.

  13. I’m more interested in the stabbing method.
