Maybe that’s what was going through Shane’s mind — a Canada resident and verified Samsung fan — when he commented on Samsung Canada’s Facebook looking for a free phone accompanied by a picture of an MS Paint-style fire breathing dragon. We’ve seen these guys before on various social networks. Heck, our inbox is full of people requesting free devices on the blind hope that maybe, just maybe us, or someone else will actually agree. Couldn’t hurt, right?
Well, a few months have past since Shane’s absurd (but totally awesome) request was posted on Samsung’s Canadian Facebook page, and although initially he was turned down for a free Galaxy S3 (to be fair, he was offered a pretty nifty picture of a kangaroo riding a unicycle as a parting gift) it seems Samsung’s America Jr. branch may have had a change of heart. Fast forward to today where Shane found a package on his doorstep. Inside was a custom made Samsung Galaxy S3, emblazoned with his “artwork,” not only the outside of the device, but a custom launcher background matching up with the artwork also adorning the bezel. Pardon my French but: Holy sh*t balls.
That’s right, Samsung clearly went out of their way on this one. PR stunt? Of course. Totally silly and completely unnecessary? Most definitely. And that’s what makes it so damn awesome. Now, I can’t help but wonder, would any of you guys — for an extra fee — pay to get yourselves a custom made Galaxy Nexus similar to Shane’s “RAWR” dragon? What would you put on it?

Since no one else is gonna bite, I will! I would take a custom design of CS:GO. Maybe the logo on the back, a custom auto respond text with the CS:GO radio communications, and some scope action. I don’t know how I would do it, BUT I WOULD DO WITH CS GO.
That or tricked out with clear plastic that changed LED colors.

Actually they have given out free stuff like the entire Final Cut Studio to a student and iPods for people who ask, but keep thinking like you do. You’ll go far.
Even Microsoft gives out free stuff. Banks once gave out free toasters. But getting a free phone with your artwork on the back? Priceless.
I would design a GNex in all Camo, of any kind, whether it be digital camo, hunting camo…you name it, camo it would be. I have camo wallpaper on my GNex now as a matter of fact.
Cool thing Samsung did for this guy! Apple would never do such a thing for a loyal customer which is why my “New iPad” is on sale on craigslist right now! I’ve also told my iPhone totin’ wife that she either uses it until it dies a painful death or she is more than welcome to upgrade to Android in December…it’s all about the choices!!

these bastards wouldnt even repair my Galaxy S II that was still under warranty, because I didn’t have a receipt! I bought it secondhand, and they screwed me out of an S2. Apple would swap it on the spot, as much as I hate them, I am very impressed with their customer support
No they wouldn’t.
Every repair centre requires proof of purchase to be able to repair it.
Yeah no receipt or apple care plan and it’s pretty unlikely they would replace it for you unless the product was already under some sort of recall.
I most definitely would pay extra for custom….battery size, full theme/shell option for removable or solid cased battery and the ability to glass any widget just to start.

I love that feeling of getting something free from social media. I’ve gotten a free lunch before from Carl’s Jr because of a segestion but a custom s3 dam that’s sweet congrats
