LG has finally made the LG Optimus Vu 2 official, announcing the all new follow up to their original unwieldy device barely 6 months after it was made available in Korea (quick enough to make even Motorola blush).
For the Vu 2, we have the same 5-inch 4:3 aspect ratio display but you’ll notice a new home button on the front, 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 MSM8960 processor, 2GB of RAM, slightly larger 2,150mAh battery, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 8MP rear/1.3MP front facing cameras, NFC, IR blaster (with matching QRemote app turning the device into a universal smart remote), VoLTE capabilities, and handy “One Key” accessory that when pressed, can help locate your missing Vu (but judging by the Vu’s size, you’re not very likely to lose it).
The LG Optimus Vu 2 is launching in its homeland of South Korea for $864 in black, white or pink color varieties. We’ll have to wait for another announcement before we learn if/or when this will be making its way stateside. Is anyone out there fond of the Vu’s 4:3 form factor?

Good, they added IR. I remember the Palm Pilot…
It looks great, specs are fantastic…. but it’s just too damn fat for holding in one hand for any legth of time.
If you watch a lot of kdrams, you’ll see many korean girls actually use this fine as well as the note. Unless you have midget hands you’re okay.
Phones looks nice and polished but ill take the Note 2. I think LG’s screen ratio is butt ugly.
Girls with their purses have managed to out-tech all of us!
Android: the preferred choice of open source geek zealots…and their sisters.
S4? Not S4 Pro? And ICS? Come on, LG. Not that I would be interested in it – the form factor is still very weird.
It’s almost October 2012 and Android phone manufacturers are still announcing yet to be released phones with Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0?
Are you serious LG? Hire a couple more software engineers and release phones with current versions of Android.
This is not acceptable.

Did they REALLY have to do that again ? :/
I think Google should start de-authorizing devices which don’t launch with the latest available Android build. Its FUGLY – we are on Jelly Bean, which is breathing new life into even old hardware thanks to project butter – and ICS still remains the big OS for OEM launches. This is KILLING Android. I also think that OEM customizations to the OS are largely meaningless, and even if they do add value, the time and effort required to update skinned Android is largely blown out of proportion.
After all, there are projects like CyanogenMod and AOKP which add features to the UI and code base on a weekly basis (smart dialing, notification toggles, nav bar customizations, gestures in various AOSP apps) and they take maximum two weeks to stabilize. And those are geeks doing the sweating in their spare time. Go figure.
Small battery for such a big device.
That 4:3 Aspect Ratio makes it look very strange for a phone. I guess they felt like having a 16:9 would be ridin’ Samsung’s balls too much with the inclusion of the home button.
I played with the first one at the Verizon store last week and was surprised at how nice it was. Very snappy and the screen looked nice. I’ll still be sticking with the Note 2 though.
Why do people whine about being released with 4.0? This is nothing unusual as when ICS was announced phones were still being released with 2.3 just earlier this year and given that only the Nexus(that i know of) is the only phone out with Jellybean, it’s not like it’s that big a deal yet that ICS is still being released.
Besides it’s Android 4.0 phone…it’s not like it’s GIngerbread or Froyo. LOL relax :D
It looks pretty in pink<3
Anyway, this phone seems like it is something cool. I played with one at Verizon but honestly this would not fit in my jeans or skirts and i hate carrying purses so idk how i as a female would be able to carry this around but I love unique form factors.
I was one of the few people who liked the Kyocera echo because it was so different and phones like the motorola backflip, Nokia twist, Motorola charm, etc etc.
This is nothing but the LG Intuition that stone Verizon! The size is hideous, but it has some decent specs. STOP MAKING ALL YOUR PHONES THE SAME!
Hideous. And can manufacturers please stop including a dedicated home button? It looks ridiculous, an outright copy of Samsung, which in turn outright stole the stupid thing from Crapple. Android, ICS or JB, have all the buttons needed and they work fine ON-SCREEN. That 4:3 aspect ratio surely won’t help with what are already dismal sales. Perhaps LG should get out of the phone business because this crap doesn’t say “I’m buying one for me, my wife, and my kids!”
Hideous this device is. Hideous.
4:3 is silly
Stay away from it it’s a LG, enough said.
