Sometimes you come across a game from the Google Play Store that really takes you by surprise. This was exactly my experience while perusing the Play Store’s latest Android games, then deciding to give Dungelot by Red Winter Software a download. Honestly, I didn’t think much of the game. Sure the art style looked fun and immediately brought back memories of Braveheart (one of my top 5 favorite Android games from yesteryear), but Dungelot was an entirely different horse.
You’d have a hard time finding a box to put Dungelot into. The game plays like a combination of minesweeper mixed with rougue-like dungeon crawling RPG. Personally, I love mashup genres and dived in head first. What I found was a surprisingly light — yet strategic — casual Android game perfect for sitting through movie trailers, waiting at the DMV, or any activity in need of time killing. Now, I invite you to simply give the game a download for yourself. There’s a free Dungelot Lite version currently available in the Google Play Store and should you decide you want the full version of the game, it’s only a paltry $.99 cents. If you liked battleheart you should probably check out nun attack as well, it’s basically a clone with a nun theme. I didn’t really like it but it’s worth checking out.
Also check out Paladog. Totally different game, but I think if you like one you may like the other.
It’s a great game with a lot of potential but it still needs work. The most recent update added a lot of great features but broke the balance and now it’s rather easy. The developer seems pretty committed though so I am confident it will only keep getting better.
Yeah, they’ve been actively working on it which is one of the reasons I’m going to stick with it. When it comes to RPG’s, I like unforgiving, brutally hard difficulty :)

Agreed. The last update gave me faith that the developer is going to keep making this game better and better. As is, it’s a steal at 99 cents
For anyone who enjoys the game I also recommend puzzlequest 2 and dungeon raid for android. Puzzle Quest 1 is better than 2 but unfortunately 2 is all that’s available for android.
Dungeon Raid is similar to Dungelot but with a bejeweled element.

For all the rpg fans here, also check out Dungeon Quest. It gets repetitive after a while, but it’s free and a very fun hack ‘n slash rpg.

Saw this article last night and downloaded the lite version, played it while watching some basketball games and loved it! Going to purchase the paid version if for no other reason than to support the developer. I am a developer myself and I have purchased more than a few games to support development even when I haven’t played the game that much. This one is quick, easy and very addicting. …aaaaand just like that, there goes my life. For anyone with very poor self-discipline (such as myself) I would recommend that you DON’T download this game. It is dangerously addictive and a game can last for hours! Highly enjoyable, thanks for the heads up Chris :-)
