Could Samsung announce the Galaxy S4 March 14th in New York?

21

We were surprised to learn that Samsung wouldn’t be unveiling the Samsung Galaxy S4 around Mobile World Congress this year, an event the company usually steals the show at with its annual Galaxy S announcement. Since then, the biggest question regarding the Galaxy S4 aside from the “what” has been the “when.” Well, according to new rumors we might be less than a month away from an official unveiling.

According to Eldar Murtazin — who tends to have more hits than misses when it comes to these rumors — Samsung will look to announce the Samsung Galaxy S4 in New York City March 14th. The previously rumored March 15th date is only one day off, so either way we’re eyeing “mid March” as quite an important window for Samsung.

Some might say Samsung would benefit from beating the competition to the announcement punch, but announcing its flagship smartphone a full two weeks after all of its competitors ensures its wares and the excitement regarding its announcement won’t be outclassed for quite some time. Samsung would have to be mighty confident that it has a surefire winner on its hands to wait that long, and we don’t expect anything less than “stunning” if the innovative Galaxy Note 2 (and even the Galaxy S3 in its heyday) is anything to go by.

We’re said to expect a 5 inch 1080p HD Super AMOLED display, Samsung’s new Exynos processor with an 8-core CPU and an 8-core GPU, 2GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera on the rear, a 2 megapixel camera on the front and more. Recent rumors suggest the S Pen will remain exclusive to the Galaxy Note series for the time being, though we never put much stock into the possibility of the S4 getting S Pen in the first place.

If the above rumors regarding the announcement date are true then we won’t have to wait long after Mobile World Congress to see invites for a New York City event rolling in, so let’s get through this month’s big show first (where Samsung is expected to unveil an 8-inch Galaxy Note tablet).

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Wasn’t it suggested that the S4 will have a quad instead of the “octa” core processor?

    http://ydfgg.com/2013/02/16/galaxy-s4-rumors/

    1. It’ll be 8-core but only uses 4 at a time. It’s called “Big Little Architecture”.

….The new chip’s eight-core design is based on AMD’s big.LITTLE architecture. This means that there are four powerful Cortex-A15 cores for the phone’s most power-hungry functions, and four lower-power Cortex-A7 models to take care of simpler tasks. When the phone isn’t needed to do anything fancy, the more powerful cores shut down, extending battery life.

      1. The current rumors are that it won’t have the Big.little architecture, just a a15 quad core processor.

  2. At first glance, I always think that is a screenshot of a broken screen – with a puncture wound and the surrounding fractures.

  3. That’s what I was gonna say. Wasn’t that just published over the weekend or something?

  4. I don’t understand why Samsung would release or announce it earlier this year. There are plenty of people still buying the S2, especially the S3.

    1. i’m guessing so their S IV will have 6 months before the Note III comes along and continue to reign for the next 6 months until the next Galaxy S is revealed.

      1. its a good stratagy to bring in revenue throughout the year

    2. The S2 and S3 will continue to sell even after the S4 is released simply because their cheaper, and price appeals to a lot of people. But im also skeptical about the date.

  6. That’s the day the comet is supposed to come through. Coincidence? I think not!

  7. Interesting.My birthday is on the 16th :D

    1. …Whats more interesting is that my bday falls right on the 14th of March, woohooooo…..

  8. This time around, unlike the S3 rumors, the S4 rumors & announcement is personally exciting to me because the S4 will be my neXt smartphone!!! Possibly on T-Mobile rather than Verizon,… I have unlimited data on Verizon, and can’t afford the $620-$700 upfront retail to keep my unlimited data, and so therefore might go to T-Mobile, where I won’t have to pay the full-retail upfront! Besides if LTE on T-Mobile falls out, HSPA 42 is a whole lot better than Verizon’s crappy 3G EVDO.

    1. Supposedly, if I understand correctly, T-Mo is getting rid of phone subsidies on all plans, including contract plans. They will however let you pay for the full retail cost in installments. Maybe someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I did read that somewhere.

      1. im on an installment plan with my s3 i put 200 upfront and pay 16/mo for the device it is still cheaper than the subsidy plan i would have had to put up 200 for the regular contract and had a higher bill trust me if tmo has good coverage where you live they are worth ditching verizon for im glad i did

  9. My B day is on the 14th :-D

  10. My birthday is on November 20th…

  11. I know I’ll be tuning in to find out what new things may come to the next Galaxy, such as an eight-core CPU and a 1080p display. My contract with my current provider is ending in the spring, so this phone is an option regardless of carrier. I really like to watch my shows while I’m on my way to work at DISH, just to pass the time. It would be really nice to use the DISH Anywhere app, which lets me stream live TV to my phone, on a 1080p display.

  12. Yeah baby bring it on!
