Glass Getting Started Past

Looks like Google is officially going full steam ahead with Google Glass — or, as we say in the hood, hard in the paint. There have already been a few walkthrough videos popping up online and attempting to show off Glass’ user interface which, up until recently, has been all but a mystery to most of us. To better give users a better idea of what the future will be like looking through Glass, ‘ol Googs took to the official Project Glass YouTube channel and uploaded their first video dubbed “Glass How-to: Getting Started.”

The quick video shows off the Glass homescreen, a timeline of cards that show everything happening in the world right now, or things that have happened “in the past” (ie, photos, messages, etc.). Awesome stuff. I can’t say I’ve been this excited about a new product since… well, the HTC One. Anyone convinced they’ll be picking up a pair of Glass when/if debuts next year?

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. God it looks so geeky and soooooo COOL.

  2. When they come out i’m, buying them! I’m still waving my $1,500 for theses glasses! Honestly though I hope they refine it a lot more before they’re released .

    1. I’d have a rough time dropping $199 on them and the only way I’d do that is if they have some amount of tint and uv protection to them also. Maybe geeky sunglasses makes it more practical. I’d stab myself in the eye before I dropped $1500 on them though.

      1. careful, i’ve stabbed myself in the eye before. it’s no fun. years of corneal erosion and related pain later and i’d gladly pay for 10 pairs of GGlass before stabbing myself in the eye…

that said, i’d have a hard time justifying $1500 for these myself. well, i’d be happy to spend the money, but my wife wouldn’t be. same thing goes for 3D printers and the ones i’m looking at are down to ~$500. i miss the old days when i made plenty of money but didn’t have any real expenses to worry about. fiscal responsibility blows.

  3. I think it would be really fun to have a pair, but for the same reason I don’t have a tablet I probably won’t ever own a Google Glass unit.

    1. I’m assuming that reason is practicality. If it is, I’m right there with you.

  4. Good luck making a hundred swipes before you find the friend you want to share your picture with.

    1. But I don’t have any friends ._.

      1. Ill be your friend if you teach me to style my hair.

      2. *Queues the Price is right fail horn*

    2. Im sure youll just say the name aloud…

    3. You know how you can “fast scroll” lists in android? I would hope glasses’ touchpad’s sensitive enough to allow the same, because it would suck to have to manually scroll through tons of options, or speak it out loud.

      1. either that, or some other novel technique for scrolling. perhaps scroll and hold, or making a circular pattern…

and ‘circles’ could certainly help reduce the number of contacts you’ve got to scan through before finding the subset of folks you’d like to share something with.

  5. These are so cool and awesome I actually can’t wait to be made fun of for just wearing them.

  6. neural nanonics version .000000000012 alpha.

  7. I fear someone will hack mine and shoot subliminal messages into my brain until I get naked and scale a water tower with a high-powered rifle.

    1. i’m afraid you might do those things without having GGlass or subliminal messaging at all….

  8. I imagine voice input will command a lot of it so you arent swiping thru all 5000 of my friends cuz I am so popular…

  9. That’s pretty awesome, love the touch pad.

Now only if they can do that for headphone/mic combos for volume and other functions related to phone calls etc.

  10. Pretty lame, if that is all you get for $1500, we’re getting ripped off big time.

Oh and you still need a phone too.

  11. Swipe forward to go back . . .

  12. And this solves what problem I don’t know that I have?
