Vivo Xplay introduced as a 5.7-inch 1080p Android handset
Vivo isn’t a name we typically see around these parts, but the company has unveiled a smartphone worthy of attention. Dubbed the Vivo Xplay, the beast you see above is a 5.7-inch 1080p HD smartphone that houses some pretty notable specs and a few unique software features.
On the inside are a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, a 13 megapixel rear camera, a whopping 5 megapixel front camera, NFC, and a 3,400 mAh battery. This thing sounds more impressive than some of the many Android phones from these big name OEMs being pushed out on a daily basis. It also doesn’t look half bad.
Even more interesting is the software. The Xplay will have Android 4.2, and while that alone is enough to open my eyes wide open it’s the “Free Touch” controls that have me more interested. Free Touch allows you to shake your device to bring up select applications or scroll through web pages with your thumb. As someone who owns a 5.5-inch smartphone I know how hard one-handed use can be at times, so it was probably imperative for the Vivo team to create unique one-handed gestures such as these.
It looks like this smartphone will launch in parts of Asia, and as far as we can tell there isn’t much chance of seeing it elsewhere. Still, you can’t help but be excited about the potential this has to get a company like Vivo into the spotlight and help their chances of becoming the next big thing in smartphones. We sure would love to see the Xplay available in more places around the world sooner than later.
