Wikipad gaming tablet release date set for June 11th
It’s been a long time since we heard about the Wikipad. It was supposed to launch as a Gamestop exclusive a while back, but that launch date came and went, and the release date was delayed indefinitely. We were told the tablet was still in the works, but no one was willing to give any sort of info on why it was delayed and how close we were to seeing it launched.
Well, all of that has changed as the folks at Wikipad have announced the release date for the controller-enabled Android gaming tablet. You will be able to buy one June 11th — coincidentally, the same day E3 kicks off — for $250. It’s a 7-inch slate which, when docked, is flanked by buttons and d-pads galore. Wal-mart.com, Bestbuy.com and TigerDirect will be the initial retailers here in the US, and pricing and release date information for other regions will be announced at a later date.
The Wikipad comes with NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 chipset, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot for up to 32GB of additional storage, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera, HDMI-out, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi N, and more. It’s no SHIELD, but for $250 and a 7-inch display it certainly does give us reason to turn our heads.
The Wikipad has Google Play Store access, support from Sony’s PlayStation Mobile initiative, as well as access to TegraZone-optimized games, meaning you’re covered from nearly every facet of the gaming triangle currently supported on Android.
