While Verizon’s long built brand of Android handsets dubbed “DROID” have largely been a hit with the mainstream consumer, the use of the moniker has never sat very well within the Android community. Where not every Android device on Verizon Wireless is considered a “Droid,” the term soon became synonymous — even to this day — with all Android handsets, regardless of carrier affiliation.
It sounds like a pretty nerdy thing to get your bifocals steamed up over, but we may have some good news for Verizon Wireless Android fans. It seems the boys at The Verge have it on good authority from “multiple sources” that when the Moto X is released in the US across all major carriers, when it comes to Verizon, it wont carry the typical Motorola/Verizon DROID branding (whew!).
But just because the Moto X will be free of the Lucas Arts trademark doesn’t mean this is the end of Motorola and Verizon’s strong relationship. Motorola still plans continuing the tradition of Droid devices with Verizon, look no further than the Droid Ultra and Ultra Maxx rumored to be hitting Big Red later this year. No matter, you can still expect your friends to call your Moto X a “Droid.” It’s inevitable.
The only carrier branding I’ve ever liked was the EVO line with Sprint.
So my friends are gonna call my Moto X, a “Droid”? Droid X? Nah that name would never work :P

yup. Somebody somehow mistook my Droid RAZR MAXX for a Galaxy phone. They were like “is that the new Galaxy?” I was like really?!? It looks nothing like one. lol

I’m over this whole Motorola thing already. They haven’t produced anything relevant for close to a year now.
If the rumored specs for the x are real I don’t see moto selling too many of them.
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if BlackBerry has sold more devices than moto this year.
The CPU might be slightly outdated but when was the last time an app was incomptatible with a device because the CPU was to slow? It’s all about the GPU and this COULD come with an Adreno 320 GPU and OpenGL ES 3.0 support! If that’s true, this would still be considered a “gaming device”. Also, a 720p screen can lower costs without really losing anything.

I wouldn’t say they haven’t produced anything relevant. I have a razr m and I love it. Perfect size, good price point and just as fast as a galaxy s3

I’m done with Motorola. I had the original Droid the Droid X and the Droid Maxx they were OK at the time but my samsung galaxy s4 blows everything away. I am going to stay with Samsung
you do realize droid droidx and even droid maxx were old news compared to S4.. smh
I would hope that you S4 blows those phones away. Even the Maxx is almost two years older than the S4. I bet you like Blur didn’t you?
Should have gotten the HTC One, mostly the same as the S4 but it looks better designed and the user interface is generally considered nicer.
The HTC ONE is not on vzw YET, so I don’t think that he could just order it or go to vzw store and pick it up. -_-

their ad had Moto X written on it so I don’t think that’s correct.
That wasn’t a real ad campaign. It was conceptual work by a non-commissioned graphic designer.
What bugged me more than Droid becoming the Kleenex of the Android world, is that that name is incomplete compared to other models in the Droid line. Anyone doing a Google search for information on their Droid phone started got swamped with results for “Droid Eris”, then “Droid X”, then “Droid X2”, blah blah blah – there was no way to construct a search that targeted the “Droid” without excluding ALL references to these other devices.
Anytime someone mentions “Droid”, I just continue the conversation as if they meant what they said. Last week someone said they had a Droid phone, and I told them they’re overdue for an upgrade.
Well, ain’t that a sexy device. I want it now. Why the wait?
Might go Moto if the camera does well in low light. Since i’ll be paying out of pocket (unlimited verizon customer) I need a phone that I’ll be happy with for at least 1.5 years.
Thank GOODNESS FOR THAT. BUT VERIZON WILL STILL GET THE DAMN RAZR MOTO EDGE/EDGE PHONE WHICH STILL PISSES me off.
