Google Glass is the hot topic when talking about wearable technology. If this new trend is to become popular, it should be because of Glass – and Google knows this. This is why the Search Giant has decided to go all in with Glass and has decided to make a major investment on Himax, the display manufacturer in charge of Glass’ screens.

The Taiwanese manufacturer says that Google will acquire a 6.3% stake of Himax Display inc. The acquisition is meant to put things in order and help Himax get everything ready for Google Glass mass production. With mass production expected to come sometime in 2014, we are getting pretty close and were expecting preparations to start soon.

Just how popular will Google Glass be, though? Will their investments prove to be beneficial for the company? Some believe Google Glass will be the next technology marvel in the industry while surveys say only 10% of Americans would use them. If we think about it, though, 10% of the US is still quite a substantial number of people.

We happen to love the product and see a lot of potential in it. You can see our opinions and reactions in our Google Glass Review. As for this deal with Himax, it is expected to close during the 3rd quarter of 2013. Just in time for production to get going! How many of you are buying your own Google Glass next year?

    1. Freaking serious LOL Chavez’s hair puts mine to shame!

  2. It looks stupid, but it is amazing. They need to have them integrated into glasses and other stuff

  3. I can’t wait for all the new laws regarding GGlass. It’s going to be fantastic

  4. For $29.95 I would buy one.

    1. lol they could get everyone to buy one for that price! I’m in!

  5. they should split the hardware between both arms so they could be slimmer and not-so bulky on one side. im sure by rollout in 2014 it will be updated. both i design and hardware…or so i hope….

    1. That’s what I was thinking. I didn’t like how there’s this huge block on one side.

  6. Put them in a pair of nice sunglasses and I’m in.

    1. You could just get tints. The ones that fade when the sun hits the glasses.

  7. I still feel the same, it’s cool but I ain’t wearing anything until it looks like a regular glass. – Chris in the next tekken!

  8. This kind of product is invaluable for parents of young kids. You can never get your phone out in time to capture something as quickly as you can with Glass.

  9. I agree that they look silly. But building the tech is the main component. Finding/changing the housing the easy part. Once they have the tech, they could put this into different housings for different users to enjoy. I’m optimistic about it.

  10. I’ll buy my own as long as I can add my prescription glasses into the frames.

  11. I just had that day where I couldn’t wear my contacts because of they needed to rest for an eye exam. I could never go back to glasses. Sorry Google. Can’t stand that stuff on my face.

    1. I lost my glasses. I liked wearing them. I felt like an anime character when I would slightly push my glasses by my nose. =.3

  12. Kevin: Chris what does the scouter say about his power level???
Chris: holy swiss cheese burgers krause, ITS OVER 9,000!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. This will never get old

      1. I take that back

        1. No backsies :-p

  13. I mean if they had augmented reality id be in….but they dont…so its kind of just like your notification tray in your face i dont see that being so necessary to invest a chunk of change in and wear something that people may find a lil silly on your face all day…plus id want it to run constantly and it doesnt…they should add a second battery to the other side n run a thin wire in the frame for extra power

  14. The biggest hurdle, as we are all aware, is price. Unless there is a decent model at an affordable price for the masses, Glass will fail. I do think one of the commanders was on the right track. Some sort of mod kit for people who wear prescription glasses would be a possible entry point for a more affordable model.
    Imho

  15. only 10% of the USA population is over 30 million people. all the so-called technology punditry keeps assailing GOOGLE and their so_called bumbling missteps but, the stock price is hovering around 900 bucks a share and sometimes in the near future they will eclipse apple.

with this in mind………….. WHY SHOULD I PUT ANY CRED IN ANYTHING PHANDROID PUBLISHES?
