We saw some early reports of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 coming to America in AT&T flavor, but now Samsung has officially announced launch details for the device here in the United States. The South Korean manufacturer has confirmed that AT&T, Sprint and US Cellular would all carry the device later this year, though no specific pricing and availability details have been afforded to us.
Already available in other parts of the world since mid-summer, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 is named after its huge 6.3-inch 720p display. That’s a great deal bigger than anything Samsung — or any other OEM, for that matter — has on the market. That said, it still isn’t quite as powerful as Samsung’s other phablet, the Note 2, or their 2013 flagship Galaxy S4. Specs include 1.5GB of RAM, a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, an 8 megapixel camera and more.
Of course, Samsung’s custom user interface sits on top, and brings with it features like Multi Window, Air View and more. Those bits will sit on top of Android 4.2.2 out of the box. You’ll be able to find this thing in either “Nova Black” or “Polaris White,” color options whose names play on the whole “Galaxy” branding Samsung has built up over the years.
The device will also come with a number of accessories, including the S-View Flip Cover, Protective Cover+, and more. We’ll have to wait for word from each individual carrier for pricing and availability, but those details shouldn’t take long to come to light. Anyone interested?
Just…no.
*sigh* Sammy leaves no niche untouched lol. Almost time for the go home Sammy you’re drunk talk.
They were drunk with the zoom.. caveman trying to smash together a hit like a phablete.. what is next speaker Phone.. the first phone with a megaphone?
There ya be all the people that b*tch about the note line not being big enough. Buy this and put your Freudian obsession with size to rest. Looking like a fool with your tablet to your ear.
It seems like samsung loves flooding the market with everything they can think of, but who am I to complain, its been working for them so far.
And people were complaining about the Moto X and new DROID phones being 720p. Wow, a 6.3″ screen being 720p, that comes out to 223 dpi. Vs, the 312 dpi on Moto X, 293 dpi on DROID Maxx & Ultra, and 341 dpi on DROID Mini. On a smaller screen the resolution wouldn’t make so much of a difference, but at 6.3″, yikes.
Plus, the 1.5 GB of RAM vs. 2 GB on the Moto phones. The processor is the same 1.7 GHz dual core processor, except for the Moto processors are tweaked and modified as being coupled with the X8 Mobile Computing System.
I can see why people want a 6.3″ phablet, it can be cheaper than buying a good phone and good tablet. But really?
The specs here on phandroid list the screen resolution as 540×960 which is less then 1280×720 which is 720p. so if you are calculating dpi based on 1280×720 the real dpi is actually lower
I think the specs you’re seeing are off with the article. Either way, resolution is bad for a phone that size.
Just posting what phandroid has up for the specs of this device on their device page is all. AKA this page http://ydfgg.com/samsung-galaxy-mega-6-3/specs/ Resolution is not the only spec that is different then what is listed in the post they have 1.4ghz for the cpu listed on the spec page yet they have 1.7 listed here
Personally i think this was a bad move. I don’t think Samsung should be flooding the Market with phones that almost look like there Flagships but aren’t. Because phones like this won’t give users the same experience as their flagships and ultimately will bring down the name if the performance isn’t up to par. Not everyone is informed about what phone is what. Some just walk around looking for a good deal, and when they finally get it, if performance wasn’t good they could just say ” I got a Samsung and it wasn’t so great, i’ll knew i should have gotten the iPhone” lol. I’ve seen it happen so much. I think they should focus on pushing their flagship and if anything the mini’s for the budget crowd, but thats it.
I agree with you. Doesn’t make since to bring this phone over and they are putting out the note 3.
Cue HTC One X, One X+, One XL, One XC, One V, One SV… I mean come on! All those phones released by HTC and look at them now. If the HTC One doesn’t bring them back, then we may see the fall of another potentially great mobile device manufacturer.
where does it end? the people who love these giant phones, do they ever go to the gym? run? bicycle?
I carry mine in my pocket, or in my hydration pack.
Dude don’t you know they lift… I bet you don’t even lift.
I don’t know how they lift that big ass phone
oh, so you’re that d00sh who doesn’t leave it in his locker where it belongs
What about listening to music while running outside?
If my contract was up for renewal, I’d be waiting for the SGN3. Two reasons: 1) Too big for my preference for a phone…the SGN3 is almost too big. 2) the SGN3 will have all of the features of the MEGA in a more powerful smaller package….and have a stylus.
threw up in my mouth a little
I’m quite surprised that they are bringing that phone to the US.
Why such a compromise in internals?
Why put high end internals in this device when the Note 3 is around the corner… This will probably be priced 200-250 dollars which is a nice discount if u want a phablet-type device that doesn’t hurt the pockets too bad
touche
No privacy using a big a$$ phone line that in public. Nexus 5 or G2 for me this next upgrade
720p on this size screen is stupid
